I am sorry you and your cats have been tormented by this dog. It sounds like talking to the ower or the property owner is getting no where. I believe I read your post that you have called animal control several times already about this dog before you were attacked. I would have shot the dog by now. I am an animal lover, have a small horse farm, a couple dobermanns and a couple of cats however there comes a time when you must protect yourself and your family if no one else will. I would call animal control once more and inform them that they will be dragged into the lawsuite for neglect if they do not remove that dog from the neighborhood (if your lawyer hasn't done that already). You can't wait the length of time a lawsuite will take to make things safe, you need immediate action, call animal control first thing in the morning or better yet have your attorney call them in your behalf.
Reading it again as well as some ot the reply post, I agree this story does not sound like the whole story. Terry I apoligize if I am wrong

I'm not sticking up for my breed. I don't own now, nor have I ever owned a pitbull. The original post seems a little far fetched. After 20 minutes fighting with a pit, any woman would not only be dead but would also be nicely mutilated.
No offense to those of you with pitbulls. I know they are really wonderful dogs when raised by good people. But we all know what kind of damage a pitbull can do if it wants to.
ummm...pit bull? 20 minutes? able to muscle a PIT BULL to a neighbor's house? no one could do that except a very very very big strong man. MAYBE!! i highly doubt it though if the dog was in attack mode. sounds like this person is trying to create more breed fear.
Now, I know a GSD can do major damage as well, and I don't feel someone could muscle one of them around either. My two GSDs are sweet dogs, but the older one definitely does not like strangers coming in our yard, but on offleash walks she is the sweetest thing, even offering to shake hands with strangers!
When a dog is nasty, it is almost ALWAYS the owner that caused it. Pitbulls are thick and muscular and gorgeous and regal and jerky people always think it is cool to teach them to be "tough". Poor innocent doggies.

it sounds like an attempt to further prejudice people against a particular breed. Or to instigate a fight about why they are good or bad.
I'm not one to start crap, or to blatantly disrespect anyone, or their opinion, but the above statement is ridiculous.
So, Terry I truly am sorry about this incident, I hope all goes well for you with the doctor and hope that are your medical problems get solved with speed and perfection.
Also, I dont want to be one to take up for my breed, because I am a big pit fan, and have been a multiple pit owner, because what happned was a true crime. But let me first say, that in my line of work I have had several, several fights with dogs of different breeds, sized, and temperments, and you are lucky, when fighting with a pit, the lesser of the two, (usually the person) never gets a chance to regain control of the situation, so, say your prayers tonight for that.
I dont know how you handle situation, whether they are usually out of anger, or you take the legal approach. If you handle them out of anger, shoot the dog, beat it, do whatever you have to do. However, if your the legal type of person, MAKE SURE this dog gets tried as a vicous and dangerous dog. Also, I would try to charge the owner with unresponsible handling with his dogs, letting a pit run freely is simply crazy.
With all that said, I again wish you the best of luck, and hope all goes well with you.
BTW I just read your post again, and I see your from houston, maybe we'll see you on tv. Animal cops

ALSO the most important thing I meant to say, is Please DO NOT think this is the breeds fault, this is another case of some jackass not being responsible with a bigger breed. Anyone of my pits would never roam the streets finding something to attack, first off a responsible owner will not let a pit roam freely. So please do us a favor and smack this idiot when you see him in court.

This pertains to: (Owning a Dangerous Dog)
Read them, print them out, and go to your City Councilman with your complaint. Also, give a copy to your lawyer. I guarantee you will get results. The city does not want the liability that they are responsible for ignoring a dangerous dog complaint and someone was hurt in the process. I'm surprised your lawyer hasn't acted upon this. This is a lawsuit ripe for the picking.
"I have seen this dog attack & kill 5 cat's, a couple of them were mine, since last June,"
This is what I don't understand. If this dog was doing this, the SPCA would have done something about this dog wouldn't they? Not to be disrespectfull but I think any dog that is vicious and running around the neighborhood loose and killing things would have been taken care of. (I certainly would not have that going on where I live, even if I had to take care of it myself.) What about children being subjected to and in danger of that? It doesn't make sense.
Ditto to that wendy. I wish the OP would come back and comment, as I am finding the entire thing preposterous. Pits have it hard enough as it is, and these stories getting perpetuated just makes it worse. It's almost like an urban legend. I thought Cujo was a St. Bernard?
LOL Bessie, and Cujo was a St. Bernard. Ha Ha, that was a stupid movie too. I would have gotten out of that car and beaten the crap out of that dog. Stupid woman. So frickin' whimpy and helpless. LMAO!!!
Wendy, you're right. I don't know of ANYWHERE in the united states where this would be allowed to go on. That dog would have been put away a long time ago. Isn't it true that people have to constantly go through battles with their local jurisdictions to try and protect their animals who have caused much lesser problems? All it takes is one tiny little minor dog bite and the authorities will come beating down the door.
If you were attacked by a dog, would your first reaction be to come to a site named "Terrificpets" to post about it and then dissapear? I doubt it, and for that reason alone I'm doubtful about the post especially since it has no true goal other than to tell the story.
I've never heard of a dog attack lasting 20 minutes myself, and if this attack took place in your garage, it would probably have been easier to escape into your house and call the cops than to drag the dog to someone elses house.
The whole "three legged cat" thing also pushes it a bit too much in my eyes.
If a dog attacks one of your pets in your garage, I would think you would be able to call the cops and not just animal control in that case and cops are not allowed to ignore calls.
I am sorry. when i wrote my reply yesterday i had no idea that people would make posts just to start trouble. i use this site to learn about differnt breeds as well as learn about the breed i own. Unfortunatly i guess i will have to be skeptical from now on when reading this forum :(
Merk1982, It's okay. I have been around here alot longer than you (can ya tell by how many posts I have?) and you will soon learn about this stuff. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt on here, but this one just seems so bizarre to me. If it is a real story, then I will be the first to apologize. Another strange comment the poster made about the dog killing a cat in their garage.....I just could not sit idley by and watch any dog finish off a cat because it had already ripped it's leg off. That is so gruesome.
