Since the OP hasn't been back to comment, I guess I got duped, too. Just put a big "G" on my forehead for gullible. You never know if someone is really having a problem, though.

Wow. I can't belive that someone would let a horible dog owner like that keep a pitbull. It is so sad that it killed your cats. You must be upset. I've heard other stories about pits attacking people and animals, and know that in some places they have banned this breed. I feel sorry for you. I wish someone would knock some sense into the owner of the pitbull, and I can't believe nobody is doing anything.

Seems many people not really believe to your experience Pitbull attacks, I am not in your side but I try to understand that maybe this Pitbull not really tough or strong, this is not strong enough Pitbull, and maybe the fighting spirit of this Pitbull is already weakened by the human situation, The real Pitbull can kill human by 20 minutes attacks, If I stand there maybe I just kill this dog once.
I think you are so good person, and you already ask several time to the landlord, animal control, and neighbours, you are good person and will try to run the system rule and laws,......I understand Terry,

Im sorry, but your story sounds made up. You are probably one of those people that are trying to get other to hate the pitbull breed. I have owned pitbulls for many years and all of them are really sweet, sweeter than lmost any breed.

The thing about 20mins fighting with the dog, that cant be true. Dog fights dont last that long. The most is probably a minute or two, depending on the breed. Just because they have a bad reputation doesnt mean they are bad dogs. Its the people that dont raise them properly and abuse them.

I know assuming makes an as* out of you and me but I have to say that it just seems impossible for a woman to wrestle with a pitbull for 20minutes, than drag him any distance... and I thought pits latch on if they're trying to attack- I've seen a pitbull bite a St Bernard's butt at someone else's house- man, that St Bernard went running and the Pit was flailing behind him. Totally besides the point but I live with a pitbull and he is the sweetest dog- I'll hold a piece of steak from dinner in my mouth (not IN my mouth but I'll just be biting it to hold it) and let him take it from my mouth. The most gentle dog in the world; I am totally biased here :-)

do you know what would happen if that pit accidentally clamped down on your nose trying to get steak from your mouth? You would have no nose, dude. I wouldn't do that anymore.

there is a misconception I think about pit bulls having "locking" jaws. They don't literally latch on, they just refuse to let go.

I know my pitties are the gentlest dogs, but I still wouldn't tempt fate. Especially with a juicy filet mignon.

It bad enough the new media has to plaster dog attacks as a major breaking news headline. Being a responsible rottweiler owner, I'm sick of people bad mouthing the so called vicious breeds. IRRESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS and IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDERS are to BLAME.

Thanks to those who bad mouth our breeds - you have caused the RESPONSIBLE dog owners many problems.

I love dogs. Little ones, big ones, timid ones, nasty ones, cute ones, drooling ones, purebreed ones, mixed breed ones, etc...etc.. If your life is threatened shoot first and shoot straight. Don't say a word to the investigators and let the lawyers sort it out. Btw..I'm a former US Marine and can hold my own. Me versus a "pitbull" in a 20 minute battle...I'm toast. Can smell the BS from here. Kinda regret my previous posts months ago regarding pigsfly..or pinkdogs or whatever.

Story sounds totally bogus. Dog would have been euthanized long ago, and twenty minutes with a pit bull? No way. I wouldn't survive two minutes.

I am 13 yrs old, and work at the lady accross the streets house, anyway she is a professional dog trainer and owns a doggydaycare, and she has a pittbull. Kiddo (the pitt) is the nicest dog that you could ever meet, she is a certified therapy dog. We have never had any problems with her, and anyway, ya'll need to read pittbulls for dummies, cause some of you are dummies! First of all a fight w/ a dog would never last 20 min., 10 tops. And pitbulls don't have locking jaws only perserverance. I have done 4 research reports on pittbulls and talked w/ my friends and family about pitts. I highly recamend this website, www. understand-a-bull.com. Hopefully it'll set some of you staight. People only want to beleive that pittbulls are mean. But it's all in how they're raised. Anyway, Punish the deed, not the breed!!!

For all of you who are saying "at least it wasn't a child," it doesn't matter who it was. It was somebody. And yes, the attack could have been prevented if the "owner" would have contained the animal, but golden retrievers run loose and have you noticed them getting any media attention because they're known to attack innocent victims? Also, an attack can last for as long as the dog is alive and energized, so 20 mintutes is nothing. Yea, she may have exaggerated a little, but when being attacked, one minute may seem like ten. Two other women and myself have had to beat a pitbull off of another dog while working as kennel assistants. The attack lasted for about 3 mintues, not 30 seconds. It would have lasted longer if the pitbull wasn't forced to let go because it had ripped through the flesh of the animals leg and there was nothing left to lock it's jaw on. I don't care what anyone says- these animals are inherently viscious and need to be treated like wild animals. Take Sigfreid and Roy for instance.

Oh, and why would this woman make this "story" up? She's looking for advice, not accusations that she is a liar. Oh, and you should shoot that damn dog.
