Hi everyone. I recently signed up and I just wanted to say hi. I checked this site out for a couple weeks before I actually signed in and I wanted to say how great I think it is. It is so nice to know you have somewhere to go to get some answers to questions you might be afraid to bring up elsewhere. Plus the support you give each other is terrific.
Just a quick bit about my dog. I have a male Golden Retriever named Shamrock, who is 3 1/2 months old. He's such a clown, but very sweet. I just love him to pieces. I put him on Dogster today(which I found out about from this site-I love it!!), but I haven't figured out how to put a link here yet. One thing at a time, I guess.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for thinking he's cute. I agree, but then again, maybe I'm just the tiniest bit baised. :-)
Yes, his nickname is Hoover because he picks things up, but he doesn't stop at crumbs. Leaves, socks, brushes, combs, shoes, cat toys, you name it. He doesn't discriminate against any inanimate object. He's an equal opportunity grabber! LOL I almost put that one of his likes is picking up something he knows he's not supposed to have and playing "catch me if you can"!!
Thank you for showing me your dogs too. I think it's great to see everyone dogs.
lovekelsey-I would love to hear about your experiences with a Golden. This is the first Golden I've owned and although I researched quite a bit before deciding to get this breed, it would be nice to hear about some first hand knowledge.
Of course I would love to hear from anyone who has any tidbits or helpful hints to share. My last dog Misha, an Akita, passed away a couple years ago. It took us this long to be ready to bring another dog into our lives. The problem is that I have been out of the dog owning loop for so long I feel like a first time mom.:-)

I can relate to the picking up anything they are not supposed to have. Georgie loves to get something and have us chase her. All I have to say is "what've you got" and she goes wild. I can't resist doing that sometimes because she loves it so much.
I am a new member posting for the first time tonight. It seems silly. The dog we are getting was just born last week and we won't have him for a couple of months. I am a new dog/puppy owner and he will be an inside dog. This is new ground I am treading. I have two children. Ashley, 9 is suffering from a bone marrow disorder and my son Andrew, 11, has a form of mild autism. Both drs said dogs are a good idea. I hope so, both need a lift now.
I would love to hear from others.
I forgot to say what the puppy is. He is a maltesepomeranian mix. We needed a small puppy/dog and one with the right personality. Somethng tells me this is the right one for us.
I am very excited about becoming an owner and hope to do the best job I can.

lorieb-I am sure you will do a great job with the new puppy. This is the perfect site for you. If you have any questions, someone here has to know the answer. I've been amazed at the knowledge the people here have. Good luck!
