Since man began domesticating dogs I am sure they have been faced with the joy of the all too friendly, stinking to high heaven, family dog. I get them in to bath, and to board in the kennel.
What do you do when the animal that got skunked weighs 1600 pounds?
Last night when I went out to tuck the horses in for the night Puff came up to me to get his treat and stuck his big ol' nose against my left shoulder. Thought I was going to vomit! Odeur de Peppy le Peu!!
Puff is a character to say the least, his favourite treat in the whole world is a blueberry bagel. He is worse for tearing apart garbage than any dog and before I got him he developed a hate for cats. If he can get to one he will "fling" it, grabbing it between his teeth and throwing it. As far as I know he has never actually killed one, and our cats all stay inside, but I have visions about how he might have got himself sprayed by that little nasty smelling black and white putty cat.
I can't even bath him right now as we have 6" of fresh snow on the ground, it's just going to have to wear off 'till it gets warmer.
you might try buying some of the deoterizing sprays, I don't know how well they work on skunk, but anything is worth a try. I know how bad it is, our hunting dogs would get this from time to time. never learned their lessons
