How do you find mixed puppies? I've been to several websites and most of them don't list mixed breed in the category section. Years ago it seemed like there were a lot of mutts free for the asking, our last two dogs were found this way. Are mixed dogs a thing of the past because most dogs are now fixed or aren't allowed to roam? We think mutts make the best pets. Thank you, Douglas
The best way to find a mixed breed of your choice is to go to petfinder.com. The dogs are not free but the small amount you pay always includes their being spayed or neutered and they have all their shots.
Or call you local pet supply stores. Many of them have adoption fairs, especially this time of year. The local "Adopt Your Best Friend" at the zoo is here this weekend in Michigan. Last year it looked like they had about 200 dogs from numerous rescue places. Most of them were mixes.
Douglassur - Have you thought of checking into Animal Shelters, Humane Societies or Rescues? All are wonderful sources of dogs and puppies. You can find just about any type of dog available at these places. Plus, most likely, the animals will have been checked by a vet, have their shots, wormings and many will already be spayed or neutered. Those procedures alone are worth much more than the small cost of adoption.
If you go through a rescue, most of the dogs will have been with a foster family, so they can tell you more about the temperment of the specific dog, plus their adaptability to cats, children and different situations they may encounter.
Where are you located? Perhaps some TP members could suggest shelters or rescues in your area. http://petfinder.com is an excellent source of the variety of dogs available in the US and Canada. But remember that they are not always able to feature all of the animals that are up for adoption online.
Good luck, there are lots of mixed breed dogs looking for homes. Many of us already own a Heinz 57 dog or two ourselves.
I have a free mixed pup and every person in my family as a mixed pup. We go though the newspaper and generally that is where people will go to get rid of a dog cheap. Try your local newspaper and also try the thrifty nickel (that's where I have ALWAYS found my free mixes) Now free doesn't mean free. You still need to pay for the shots and the neuter/spay. If you go to a shelter you will have to pay a small amount but it will include your shots and the neuter/spaying of the dog. Which actually is cheaper to go through the animal shelter plus you are saving a life!!! Good luck !!! :o)
Hummmmmmmmmm! I really don't think they are hard to find. I have 4 jack-a-doxie-poo puppies right now. Usually people get them vet cked, shots, wormed, and dew claws removed. i did all that...plus made CD's of there birth and the last 8 weeks of there life. Just keep looking. There are nice people out there with great mixed puppies and like mine, u can get very small ones.
If looking for a mutt, there are an over abundance of them in the shelters that would love to find forever homes. Also, since this thread is two years old, i would venture to guess that the OP has long since found what he was looking for.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
find a Wal-Mart in a poor area of town, go hang out on a Saturday, you are sure to find a free pup. But you won't know anything about it. When they do this at my Wal-Mart I call the cops, as it is against the law in my state. The Dept of Ag requires you get a tempory permit to do this. Drives the poor cops nuts. They wish I would just shut up and go away. Not happening. LOL
