I have two female dogs they like me(I am a girl) but really love my boyfriend. Do you think it is his behavior towards them or do female dogs like male humans better? and Would I have a better bond with a male dog?
I have had both male and female doberman's. They all were attached to both my wife and me. Although the female I have now is more attached to my wife and the male is more attached to me they both listen to me before the would listen to her. The do listen to her but if a choice of listening to one or the other they always seem to listen to me first. I think it has something to do with the deeper voice. My voice sounds like I am telling them what to do and her voice sounds like she is asking them to do something. I may be wrong but this is what I believe at this point unless someone can give me a better reason.
Several factors: In many breeds dogs are attracted to the oppsiit sex.
Also, who raised them? Male, female or both?
One of my afghans has two daddys and he came to me at 5 months. He ADORES men, I have to pry him off of men, even strangers he just lovvvesss men. My boy from a single woman adores women, and my bitch from a single woman is suspicios of men and not as showy as with women.
I agree with the above poster. Sassy (female) plays with me, but my husband is the alpha male (I'm alpha female) and she not only submits to him, but also loves up on him all the time. When hubby and I are playing around and he lays on the floor, Sassy will go right up to him and start licking his face all over. She's always giving him love and affection. Me? I get the playtime moments. It's okay if she is more attached to your bf, as long as she still listens to you. :)
I've never really noticed a difference. I think some dogs may behave differently around one person over the other depending on how you interact with them. I think my dogs sees me as "mom"- the one who feeds me, grooms me, teaches me how to behave and my husband as "dad"-the one who always plays silly with me, gives me treats and sometimes tablescraps that mom disapproves of, and lets me get away with murder. But, she's overwhelmingly in love with both of us! She just minds me better!
My mom's boston goes to either my mom or I if he wants to sit in someone's lap and sleep, but he goes to one of the boys if he wants to rough house.
Our dogs are attached to both me and my wife equally, the female maybe a little more to her.
When I play with the dogs I play, but when I tell them to do something I tell them with a clear distinct voice pattern. On the other hand my wife's voice sounds more like she is asking them not telling them and I believe that is why the listen to me over her. Not saying they don't listen to her when I am not talking to them.
We have had each dog since they were about 8 weeks old, they are about 6 months apart. One is retreiver mix, the other great dane. I spent more time home with them due to an unemployment time- I figured when I went to work they would appreciate me more. I figured they just thought I was always around. That was not true. Yes they jump on me when I get home and they will let me pet them but if my boyfriend is home they sit by, on, or against him. They lick his face. They just show him more affection then me. They do listen to me, the tone of voice is really important.
I get jealous with the difference of attention they give that is why I wondered if I had a boy puppy would make the difference but it does not really sound like it.
i think the tone of voice and the whole mommy thing is very true, maybe in all "animals" sounds alot like my 2 legged critters. they listen to mommy somewhat but really listen to daddy and they see me as the one who cleans and feeds and soo on where daddy is the one who likes to play and rough house. i think the dogs can sense this as well. Jake (our lab/chow) will listen to me if my husband isnt around. same as our kids.... go figure :)
In my experience it really doesn't matter what sex either species is....in my house it depends on who does the disiplining.....My boyfriend will yell at the cat or stomp on the ground if and when she tried to get out....now when he leaves she doesn't even try and she plays with him and sleeps next to him at night......
I'm just a big softy and yell at her in one of those I'm disappointed but it's ok voices ....my boyfriend has compared it to the Mel gibson movie Signs when they are running around the house yelling....he said that I sound like Mel when I yell at her.
So in short try to do some more disciplining and they will treat you like you are their best friend :)
