my dog just inhales her food she doesn't even chew. how can i slow her down . the other day she got sick because she ate so fast. i feed her very well and she gets lots of treats so it isn't that she is afraid of not getting anything to eat.
My female doberman use to eat like that when she was a pup. She would litteraly inhale the food. My vet told me about spreading the food out, not in a bowl, this would slow her down, someone told me about floating the food in water and this would slow her down, when I tried that it was all over the floor so I didn't do that again. I then started to feed her out of a bowl shaped like a bunt cake and this did the trick. She eventally grew out of it when she was about 1-1/2 to 2 years old. Someone even suggested calling the dog food companies and making a buck off of her in commercials while it lasted, but I didn't do that either.
hello all im a newbie!, ive got a Doberman (10 months)who does this constantly~its so frustrating listening to him coughing up his dinner after he 'inhaled' it ~ the little piggy. I have tried all the tricks in the book as some of the other members have mentioned above. Eventually i switched to a huge kong...its fantastic as its keeps them active and their minds busy and encouraging there natural instincts to forage for food an also makes me laugh when he looks at me and has a blob of peanut butter on his nose! Try the kong website they can be exspensive but are vertually indestructable nd they have a few recipies for a treat.
