You know I have a male Yorkie here and a female Rott.....Maybe I could make some Rorkies.....they would be sold as standard size yorkies.....I could be sitting on a gold mine and don't even know it......LOL
I am just kidding I would never do such a thing and I think anyone out here that is mixing breeds to make these so called "designer" dogs are disgusting and should be shut down. There is nothing designer about "mutts"....they are what they are...."mutts" and slapping a fancy name is not going to change that....People need to wake up and stop being ripped off by these types of people. If you really want a mixed breed dog or even a so called "designer" dog I am sure the shelters are full of them.
I have a black Great Dane that is close to 140 pounds at 1 year old, and a black Chihuahua male that is 1 1/2 years old and weighs 2.5 pounds. When "Dimes" the Dane came in her 1st heat it almost drove "Max" the Chihuahua crazy... My husband thought it was crazy the way Max would breed her ankles. I told him all the mix breeds out there this would be the funniest looking a Chihuahua body with a Dane head or Dane body with a Chihuahua head. We would never do such a thing but I am sure if someone thought they could market it they would.
yep your right they would.....I have a Shar-pei/dane mix that came from the shelter.... So know I have a 140lb dog that looks like a long legged very large shar-pei. I love him to death. And I often wonder if that breeding was on purpose.
To answer the question i'm dumbfound...as im not a breeder i couldn't comments on an aspect which i nothing off..i'll leave that to the proffesionals here .. i can only answer that this seems to be coming more and more popular. i certainly wouldn't want one.
But could some one explain.. What is a puppy mill?? are they good or bad? Can people off USA buy dogs from pet shops/stores? are they generally good/high standard dogs etc.what are the laws in the usa...im not trying to start a row or start bashing the way you do things or anything but i dont understand some of the lingo being used probably cus im from the uk and im just curious.
In the uk and it is illegal to sell any dog or cat in a petshop..the only way we can obtain a dog is an illegal puppy farm a rescue shelter or a breeder. We have exstensive checks made on our home and lifestyle if you buy from a breeder (a responsible one anyway!) and a rescue shelter to see if you are suitable. ~twinkletoes

Seriously? Go google puppy mill pictures. They have hundreds in some cases of dogs in little cages in their own filth who are bred everytime they go into heat. They are for profit, that is all. Some petshops in canada and us have dogs.
Generally they are backyard breeders and mill pups. They can often have genetic issues. Often weird mixed mutts are now showing up. Generally the dogs are mediocre or worse standars. Some have AKC papers, lots are forged papers or fly by night registrys that mean nothing.
ive just googled puppy mills Mafiaprincess..it takes alot to make me cry but this made me cry instantly..its sickening and distressing but like one poem i read it talks about how people are buying these pups in the shops/mall out of the kindness in there hearts but it only leaves another space for another pup and unknowingly to some continues the puppy mill trade. Im not saying it doesnt happen in the UK but obviously the UKs alot smaller than the USA and its 'easier' to 'control' a small area. Is the US Goverment trying to ban selling in shops/malls and help to stop these mills/puppy farms or is it a private battle between the citizens of the USA and these mills? ~Twinkletoes
There are some states who have laws regarding treatment of animals but I don't know if there are ones specifically pointed towards puppy mills and pet shops. I think that's wonderful what the UK is doing. As you said though, it's easier to control a smaller area. The way our gov. works the federal government would probably never touch the subject...just because this is a topic they would probably allow each state government to control.
For example I believe in California they don't allow cats to be declawed. The issue of puppy mills/stores would be the same type issue.
Well, I don't know much about the designer breeds, but it seems to be getting ridiculous. I have a mutt, and I'm so glad I have her because she's my best friend, but there are enough unwanted puppies out there for people to be making more.
