I chatted with a few people just yeaterday about this same issue..My vets seem to be on the high end.. office charge-$35.00 vaccinatins-25.00 rabbies30.00 I know it costs a lot to run a vets office..but they gont have to make it back all at one time on me...lol..
I had 5 pups dewclaws done and tails docked and it was 64.00 plus 35.00 office visit..many have mentioned cheaper prices...but i dont have many vets to choose from in my local area...Im going to have to look into doing all the shots at home like we used to do ...My Ex used to do the shots..i did the holding..and we bought the wormer and did it at home..We raised German Shorthaired Pointers..but really got away from all of that in the past 10 years...need to get back..costing too much..i do believe in good vet care..but if you can do it your self and save a buck..im all for that..I was/have been leting the vet do everything..worming. shots and all..Im taking a better look and will just eventually do what i can here and let the vets continue doing the rest...I've seen the light!!! Lol
huron- if you can do the shots at home more power to you! I can't believe they charged 30.00 for rabies. That's REALLY high! I'd love to see your german short hairs sometime. My husband and I love the hunting dogs. I knew a client who had 2 that lived to be 17 years old. They were incredible and really still in pretty good shape when they died considering their age!
Ginger...I no longer have any german short hairs..That was long ago..My Ex was an avid hunter..and the brittney i still have is the last of his bird dogs..I got custody of them as well..lol..I had to put the last short hair to sleep almost 2 years ago..She began having siezures and lost her sight and hearing and even started getting mean to us..she had 2 in 6 days.,.so the last one we put her down..she was about 14.. she was a great dog..My ex paid over 1200.00 for her lets see..in 93 I think..and he drove to Iowa to get her..She had exellent blood lines and was an impressive..quite aggressive hunter and retriever..she was a kennel dog and it took me years to make sure she was house broke..and she loved her crate..she would stay in in more times then not..She had us 3 litters and we had a male with linage to Prina dog of the year..Cant remember his line at the time,,But it was good too..many field champions..but that isnt the same as real hunting line..I divorced in 2000 and remarried in 2002...and My new Hubby ( see photo bucket post) Loves the German shepherd Dogs and the Schnauzers..He really loved old Skipper too..but we didnt want to go into that breed..No one in this area will pay money for a hunting dog..They get some mutt and if it doesnt hunt..they leave it in the fields..I spayed all my dogs when i saw the trend up here..we had good responce when I live in the city..Closer to Detroit..believe it of not..but in the sticks..no one would pay for a hunuting dog..so..I stoped producing..I have fond memories of old skipper..and we still have the brittney NAmed Topper..He will stay until his quality of life inst any good any more..He is very old and very fat...But he thinks he is somethng else...He is a good dog..but liked to roll in stinky stuff..so right now he stinks...lo.Allthe dogs in the house need a good bath...maigh do them thuis week..some each day...Well thansk for asking Ginger..And WE are seriously thinking of doing our own shots and worming...Like I said..We used to and Hubby said he will give the shots if I hold them so..We will again..just too costly with 7 dogs and a litter of 5..
Maybe I should not respond to this as I have a great old time vet. You know the kind that still makes house calls. My vaccines are $5.00 and office visit is $15.00. I had a cockapoo that was attacked in the fenced yard by a great dane on a Sunday afternoon and she had 45 sutures and the cost was $30.00.
