. Hi im new to this web site and it looks like a great place for info, so hear it goes !!! Well i just got a new puppy on Friday he is about 10 weeks old. I have noticed that he does not seem to have much energy. I have to pull or carry him to get him out side. Than most of the time he will just lie down, forget about going for walks! I have him on good food from Solid gold, when i took him in the lady there said his gums are very very light pink almost white. She said that from a bad diet! This morning i finally got to see him play for about 5 mins and he was running ďThatís a first". The people we got him from said that he had his shots, they did them them selfís. I donít buy that so im going to take him in to have them re done. My vet is away until the middle of the week. Any ideas, my husband said itís because his puppy, but i thought puppies are hyper. His doing the normal puppy stuff, having accidents in the house and or course seeing how many pairs of shoes he can destroy. My husband said im worrying over nothing, but I have already bonded with this little guy and the thought that maybe im not seeing something worries me. Any help or advice would be great.
I was thinking about that, i was looking on line at dogs having low blood sugar "hypoglycemia" They said dogs can have pail gums. The strange thing is his not being sick and his poop looks good! On line it was saying how to test a puppies sugar levels and what is a good sugar level for them. But it did not say where to stick him. I have a meter as im hypoglycemic myself. I just took him in the car with my to take my Daughter to school. As soon as I carry him out the car he just lays down on the grass.
I am going to get him into a vet today; it just sucks when you know a great vet you can trust and his away. Itís just so strange as this morning he was so full or energy and life. He was running and bouncing around.
I agree...I would take him to the vet! I'm sorry that your puppy was sick. When I first got my Dane, Zeek, somebody in my family gave him a huge piece of fat from a steak! He had diarhea (sp) for 3 weeks. It was said. I was scared cause he got really sick. So, I know how you feel. You prob. need to get a second opinion. Keep us posted on how he is doing!
The vets office is going to call me back, any one have any ideas what it could be. He just got up and started following me while i was walking. He was all happy to see me; itís just so up and down with him. I had a friend come over yesterday and she asked me if he was sick, my husband said he is just a laid back puppy. But at this age is there such a things as a laid back puppy.
I had a dog that when he was a puppy all he did was sleep. all he dose now is sleep. He was just a lazy dog. He would sleep all day wake up eat go to the bathroom then go back to bed. So maby he is just lazy too. The dog I had is at my moms now.and he goes to work with her every night he sleeps right in the door way so patents have to walk over him just to get into the door. by the way that dog is a pitbull.
Puppies do sleep a lot when they are puppies but your puppy should be full of energy while awake. Never wake up your puppy to play because they need the sleep. I would take to the vet right like you did. Let us know how your puppy is doing.
Hope your puppy is full of energy and feeling good soon.
Wouldnít you know it, as soon as i leave a message for the vets he starts to play? He ran around the back yard chasing a ball and EVEN tried to play with my Doberman. Iím still going to get him in just to be safe. I donít think his lost owners gave him a great diet...So i was wondering if that may have something to do with it. I will keep you all up to date on everything and everyone has been a great help.
Ohhh 1 more? If you do not mind, do any of you give your dogs can food. I was thinking of getting him green trip as it has so many nutrients in it.
There are many options. Have him checked for a heart murmer.
And then you only got him on friday. Today is monday. He may be shell shocked. It happens to some puppies and it takes them a few days to a week to adjust to their new home and their real personality to come out.
Also, at ten weeks, the chances are high that he is in the middle of a growth spurt. As he grows you will notice periods of rest and energy as he grows.
I'd not have him revaccinated if they said they did the vaccines, I'd wait to the next scheduled date. You can bloiw a dogs immune system.
As long as he eats drinks and poops normally, he is most likely not sick.
It sometimes takes a while for a pup to get adjusted to a new environment and new people. All he probably need is a little time to feel comfortable in his new home to start to act normally.
It sounds like he is starting to get over his initial fear and beginning to adjust. Just keep him as stress free as possible. Do not reprimands him or push him in to doing thing he doesnít want to do just yet. Give him time.
Btw, heavy worm infestation can suck the energy out of a pup too. Make sure you deworm him.
.Iím very happy to see him playing, as for Eating, WOW this little guy can eat. Right now im feeding him about 12 a cup 3 to 4 times a day. Does that sound right, i was told one thing for a pet store and than another from feed store? Itís been about 25 years since i have had a puppy so im trying to get into the swing of things. Also what deworming med would everyone recommend. I did see one of pet smart web site I believe it was called D-Worm
d-worm will take care of round worms and hookworms which are the most common worms in pups.
If your dog has or had flees, he most likely has tape worms too which is not covered by D-worm. D-worm will not do anything for whipworms either.
Best thing to do is to ask your vet for Drontal plus. It will take care of all the worms that he may have. Personally I wouldnít bother with a fecal test. Chances are your dog has at least one type of worms and Drontal plus will take care of them all. Even if he is worm free, the med will cost less then the test.
