I have just spent almost 2 hours trying to prove that I DONT send porno to anyone....It seems that "SOMEONE" hacked into my computer and used my email address to send a lot of junk to a lot of people...I first went to my service provider and then to McAfee who sent me the notice. They tried to chase down who was responsible but it seems that the ip address that was used had been blocked and is not in use anymore....I am extremely angry....be careful... this person could do this to you.
I have been using another name here to avoid any problems but I guess that didnt work either.
I'm sorry as I know this is off topic but I felt others needed to know McAfee GroupShield™ Alert McAfee GroupShield discovered a problem with the following email. See your system administrator for further information.
Sometimes it doesn't mean a hacker got into your computer. If you opened up an attachment from someone you know, they could have had a certain virus that attaches to your email address book and sent out mass emails under your name to people you know.
If it has nothing to do with opening an email attachment from someone you know then I would suggesting using a firewall that blocks your ports from hackers trying to get into your computer.
It is very hard to block an IP address. Whomever it was could not be just an average internet surfer/user.
halo, thanks for the info...I'm pretty sure I know who hacked into my computer out of spite and illness. Afterall when you brag about knowing how to do it and laugh about how easy it is... I am just concerned that more people on here will be affected by the same wrong doer....
that happened to me when i girst got my computer. i got home and tried to log on and there was a message saying my account was terminated. i flipped out and called the service provider and they said i wascut off because i had sent out porno pic's to alot of people. of course this all happened while i was at work so i couldnt possbly have been me , my son or my hubby. its a scary thought when something like that happens. i am and was at the time new to computers and had no idea how it oculd have happened. lickily my service provider didnt cut me of for good.
Sorry this happened to you. But since there was so much before about people blaming each other with out real proof, don't accuse someone unless you are 100% they are the hacker....we don't need another 100 page post on something like that.
This happened to me. Even if you are able to track the ip address they are not the sender, rather someone else like you who had the email sent through them. They have it well thought out there is probably a dozen or more email boxes that that email went through before it ever got to you.
Colliemom: Sorry to hear about the troubles you have been having re: your computer and account.
I have been getting an unusual amount of junk mail lately. Anyone else experiencing that problem?
I don't surf the net, using my email address, so I doubt it is coming from MY use of the internet.
Maybe the people that can't call my house, due to me being on the DO NOT CALL list are finding ways around pestering me?
Or maybe someone, somehow, somewhere is sending all of this junk mail to me?
They are wasting their time though. If I don't know the sender, I don't open it. I mark it as spam and report it to my email provider. After that it automatically goes to my junk mail, where it is promptly deleted.
Zone Alarm Pro is a great Firewall program but you have to purchase it in the store.
It will protect your email and quarantine suspected email attachments. It also gives you inbound protection which blocks access attempts on your computer. The outbound protection secures programs you want to access the internet. It will also list all IP addresses that try to access your computer and let you know if it is a high, medium or low rating. It gives you the location of hacker ID where you can directly report the abuse to their service provider or you can report the IP address through Net Watchman who then contacts the service provider and files a report.
