Well, I have not had a successful week with housetraining. My puppy, a 7 month cock-a-poo i adopted from a shelter has started to poop in the house again. He has been great for several weeks now. I let him sleep on the bed with me a night - no problems up until this week. I woke up Tuesday night and just almost died from the smell. He pooped in like 5 places in my room. Well it was 4 o'clock in the morning so I cleaned it up and went back to bed. This time I kept him on the leash in the bed. Then just this morning, I got up to take him out. We came back in and he played while I laid back down. Then he pooped again on the floor. Now I do keep cleaning the area with an enzyme cleaner and everything. GEEZ - is it normal for them to regress sometimes? Will he ever get it? I have taught him to ring a bell when he wants to go out. Now in all fairness he couldn't get to the bell this morning cause I had my bedroom door closed. But even when he can get to the bell, he just rings it all the time cause he knows I will take him out. Any suggestions are welcomed.
5 times in one night? That's not normal, it sounds like he had an upset stomach. What are you feeding him? Have you changed his food recently or given him treats? Were you crate training him? If you were, put him back in the crate until he gets some more control. He may just have too much freedom.
I don't think he went 5 times in the night. He just is funny, when he goes he sort of walks around a bit as he is going so it is placed in several diffent areas. I think he only went one time. It was just alot. Actually, you are right. I did just change his food, but I did it very gradually and he didn't seem to have a problem with it.
What kind of food did you change from and to? I'm wondering if perhaps there's a new ingredient that has caused some bowel irritability. Also, has he had a fecal recently? If it's been a while, you might consider one, since he IS a puppy and they can run into digestive upsets. Last year, our Spicey (then a 6 month old chow) started having HORRIBLE diarrhea one night; I mean it was gross! The next day I investigated the yard, but couldn't find anything...until I happened to notice that one of the neighbors' apple trees overhung our fence, and there were NO little green unripened apples on that branch. Well, I looked around, and behind a bush I found about a zillion little green apple cores. Grrrr......And I have no idea why she had the sense to hide the cores behind the bush. What a brat! Although, this is the same dog that can open the fridge when she wants a piece of cheese, and can operate the ice dispenser on the front of the fridge.....and she does her best to teach her rotten little tricks to the other dogs.
I took him off of AvoDerm Puppy because he had very intense gas (seriously intense). He now gets Innova for Adult dogs. I really don't think it had to do with the food. However, I gave him his Sentinel worming med the day before, does anyone know if that could cause a problem?
i would contain him at night some how, either in a crate next to your bed or tethered to your bed. he will be more likely to wake you up to go outside. since he's sleeping in your bed, the floor becomes a place to poop, out of the way of where he sleeps. i wouldn't let him sleep in your bed.
