Did you know that in certain parts of Australia pit bulls are banned? In my state, four dogs have been classified as dangerous and had a breeding ban imposed: dogo Argentino, fila Brasileiro, Japanese tosa, American pit bull terrier or pit bull terrier, and any crossbreeds of the above. For about 2 years now you are allowed to have the dogs you currently have (sometimes) but you can no longer breed the above 4 dogs. So once the current dogs die, no more puppies to replace them, so goodbye pit bulls and co. Police will actually stop you to ask if you have a pit bull. I have read reports of family pets being killed because of it - regardless of being aggressive or not. If they find new puppies, they get killed also. There are substantial fines too for having them and a possible jail term. In some ways I feel it is a good move. I know that people say it's not the dog, it's the lack of training and love that it received that made it more aggressive or anti-social and I totally agree with that. However, there have been quite a few, actually many, cases of people getting savaged/killed by pit bulls (I never hear of the other 3 banned breeds here really) and obviously a lot of us Australians can't handle the high level of responsibility that these dogs require. So what do you do? Ban the breeds that a lot of people obviously can't handle or put our total trust in people to train them properly -- when a lot of these people have a mentality of wanting a "macho fighting dog" to prove how big their genital region is, if you know what I mean!! Personally, I can't trust that person and prefer them not to have access to a dog like this. Please note, I am not saying they are bad dogs --- just bad people with the dogs. They have lost their chance to prove themselves and that they are prepared to take the extra care....so now they can't have the dogs. Does anywhere else live somewhere with restricted or dangerous dogs?
No i dont but i do agree with u i mean i am scared of pitbulls and other dogs that were bred to fight but i am only a kid but still i mena i havent heard of like anyother dog but those dogs and even though i know that boxers like my dog were prob. bred for that 2 but they have gotten better and proved they can be good pets and the pitbulls havent and i think that it was terrible to make dogs fighting dogs i mean once we dont need them to fight anymore than people want them as pets and like u said they cant handle them so they fight and sometimes kill and i am srry to everyone out htere that like the pitbull but i am not talking about the people that can take the responsibility of training and making those dogs good pets
not every pit bull are the same i dont agree with yous it should be like this punish the deed not the breed that is wrong to kill puppies and dogs just because of their breed at the shelter i work at there are about 600 dogs there and about 90% of them are pit bulls or american staffs it isent the dogs fault it is agressive it is the owner or trainer of the dog i think it is just plain WRONG to judge a dog by its breed its like dogsism (RACESISM) Melissa
If u didnt see wat i said it was the peoples fault that first bred them to fight becuase now they are stuck in shelters unless they are lucky and i said the people that can take care of them right then great but i am talking about the people that cant do it and u r right about them not being able to help that they are agressive but the people that bred them for that i blame them becuase these dogs get torchered for it now and i dont think its right
Do you know what's really hilarious?? I have been around all kinds of breeds of dogs all my life and you know what dog bit me in the face and caused me to get rushed to the emergency room to get stitches? A Lhaso Apso, one of them cute little hairy things. The dog was demented and had bit three people before me. Another dog that bit me in the leg, and I have a scar to prove it, was a labrador, it was running loose in someone's yard and charged right for me and bit me. I have been around pit bulls for a long time and own five of them, and I have never gotten bit or snapped at from any of them. I honestly believe they would die to protect my life before they would ever think of bighting me. Remember, "Punish the deed, not the breed".
I agree, I agree. This wasn't supposed to be an attack on pitbulls. The sad thing is that in Australia, a lot of people obviously aren't training their pitbulls so they have now been refused the right to own a pitbull at all!
I find it very disgusting that a country who go as far as to band breeds of dogs and kill some of them (maybe they sould band some owners). My freind owns 2 pit dogs and a small child. I have not seen the dogs the least bit of agression toward the child. Any breed of dog will become agressive after years of neglection and abuse. I just think pit bulls are powerful and capible of doing more damage then most breeds. However, I do not think this is their fault in any way, shape, or form.
