My mini schnauzer just turned a year old, and he now has moments where he drools heavily. I thought he was peeing on the couch, but I noticed that it's only in the spots where he sleeps. I then noticed him drooling from time to time, so I figured that that's where the wetness was coming from.
Is this a common thing for dogs his age? I've never heard of this before.
Sorry, I'm no help to you. I have 2 Pyrs (Mastif breed), so drool is an expected with them. It's possibly the same thing as humans who drool when sleeping. Check with some of the others, especially Huronbreeze. I'm sure they'll be able to answer you with some actual info.
Well, I know all dogs drool, just some more than others. Last night my Beagle, Duke, was laying with me on my bed and I was eating Chex mix. All of a sudden I look over and I see his big drool... erm... string hanging out of his mouth!
But maybe your mini schnauz just drools in his sleep. If he starts not eating or gets lethargic, take him to the vet and bring that up.
He could be just drooling, check his teeth.Sometimes dogs will drool if there are dental issues. I realize the dog is only a year, but just check. Try to get him to sleep in other places to see if the drooling still happens. If they taste something bad, they will drool as well. Is it any time of day or say only after comeing in from walks, etc etc...My dogs will drool alot after they have licked their feet, say if there is salt on the roads.

I would have him checked out at the vets. I also have mini-schnauzers and my male had never drooled until he was diagnosed with diabetes. I am certainly not saying that is what it is or that it may just be nothing, but I would have some blood work and find out if everything is okay.
Speaking of teeth, I just checked them out. He has TWO canine teeth on the left side! One is the same size as the one on the right, and the other is smaller. I can't imagine this being a baby tooth at his age.
Can the vet just yank the small canine out? I'm getting him neutered in a couple weeks so maybe he can do both at once.

The extra tooth is a baby tooth that didn't fall out. they will be able to pull it at the neuter appt. My big dog drools off and on. When he does it I wipe his teeth and then he stops. I took him to the vet and she had no idea. It happens about once a month and his teeth are fine.
