I have two dogs, a mini schnauzer age 9 and a 1/2 mini schnauzer/yorkie mix age 13 (both neutered early). They are very easy going, people pups. They will bark briefly at a new person, but quickly make friends. They have been around other dogs for long stretches of time-my mother in law's boston terrier lived with us from the time she was about 3 months until she was almost a year and another family member's bichon friese (that may not be spelled correctly).
I would like to add a new pup to the household and I am having trouble deciding. All of my children are grown, but there will be a grandchild in the household frequently in a few months. I definitely prefer small dogs. I have looked at Maltese, yorkies, another mini schnauzer and really like the look of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
I would like advice about any potential problems or advantages of one breed over another, considering the pets I already have.
i have never owned any of those breeds but i can tell you if you consider the cvalier make absolutely sure you investigate the breeder very well and they do heart checks on all their breeding stock and have the pups hearts checked before going ot their homes. heart problems are prevelant in the cavaliers
My cousin has a Maltese/Toy poodle mix, and he is very very cute, but very annoying. He barks at his own shadow, he probably barks 3/4 of his day. His fur is also ALWAYS in knots even if we brush him. But he is a little cuddlebug and so loveable and so very very cute.
