I just noticed my 5 year old labrador has swollen bottom eye lids. His eyes seem very heavy, and he can open them...but there is a very visible red lid. This leads me to believe his third lid is what I am seeing, which I think is normally red.
He is an indoor/outdoor dogs, and likes to chase bees, wasps, etc. From another topic, I read dogs eyes can become red and swollen from eating bees. Has anyone else heard of this?
The area around his eyes is not very puffy, and his behavior is very normal. He does have a hard time keeping his eyes open, but this may be due to an uncomfortable feeling.
I don't know what to think because it is both eyes, and not just one. The left seems to bother him more than the right. Is this just allergies or are there any other thoughts?
Thanks for any advice you may have...I greatly appreicate it!
Agreed- I'd get him to the vet right away. These are also early signs of glaucoma (which is quite rare for labs, so don't get freaked out)- better to be on the safe side. I'm willing to bet he got into something outside that irritated his eyes- Jazz is famous for finding the bugs that make her whole head swell up- and it's never been anything a cortisone shot couldn't fix.
