Well, research research research and I've come up with the possibility of Blue Buffalo dog food...yay or nay?
I'm picking up Dokker at four. I'm gonna run over to the pet store and get some things, including his food, because today's the day, and I STILL haven't decided. After doing all this research, it seems EVERYTHING is bad for my dog. I can't really find a problem with the organic stuff, though, either, like Newman's Own.
Any advice from you 'not trying to sell anything or endorsed by anyone' dog lovers would be awesome! I'll be sitting here, nervous as all heck to go get him, clicking refresh. haha.
oh- not sure that it matters, but he's a small breed, Schipperke. I also have a Shiba Inu (mix?) and I will be changing his brand to whatever brand I decide for the pup.

i have never heard of that food. is buffalo the main ingredient or is that just the name of the food ? when scout was little i tried the wolf cub food by solid gold. the main ingredient was bison. she hated it and got severe diarrhea from it. i wound up throwing the whole 15 pound bag away. damn shame too as that food is VERY expensive.
Great! Well, I think I'll go with the Blue, then, and we'll see how they handle it. I just didn't know if I was missing anything. It IS a bit pricey, I was looking it up at Petsmart.com, and it's 12.99 for 6lb bag! yikes. 39.99 for a 30 lb bag! Oh well, what else am I going to spend my money on, if not my dogs.
As a side note, looks like flights in Atlanta are being delayed due to Tstorms. That's where Dokker's connecting flight is. But, if it cancels I can be there in 2 hours to pick him up, rather than him flying in here. So, we'll see! Thanks for your replies, guys! I'll post new pics when he gets here :)
Dook: I am so excited for your new arrival. Let us know all the details and be sure to take lots of pictures. Weren't you the one that was doing a complete housecleaning, in preperation for your new puppy? Wish I had that much ambition.
Hope to see lots of pictures of that cute little puppy face. Congratulations.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Blue Buffalo! I switched over almost two months ago and boy was it worth the extra money! Tucker, a six-month-old golden retriever was on Eukanuba large breed puppy food and he was itching like crazy. After talking to some Petsmart employees about it, they recommended Blue. It has no corn, soy, wheat or fillers and uses human quality meat. It also has life source bits, which have antioxidants to build up your dog’s immune system.
Here are some of the benefits I noticed:
Although it is 25% more than Eukanuba, you feed your pet a little less Example: Eukanuba called for 5 cups per day for his weight and age at the time and Blue calls for 3 1/2. Since there is more nutrition in comparison, they don't need the extra food. This means his poops are smaller, even though his weight remained completely constant.
He stopped itching
His coat is healthier
Tucker loves this dog food (although he loves anything!!)
He's heeeeerre! MAN! What a day it was! Over all, he was over four hours late getting in, AND I had no clue where he was for most of that.
I just love him. I am serious, he is nothing like I expected. I mean, I expected a great new pup, etc, but I never was able to really visualize HIM. And he is fantastic. He came out of the crate without an upset, he was bouncy and hyper and loving it. He just clung to me from the second I let him out, and hasn't left my side since.
Anyways, I of course took tons of pics tonight, and had time to put some up on dogster, though I haven't updated his page other than that. I plan on getting some sleep now, cuz I'm tired as all heck, and will do a photo album and updates tomorrow!
And yes, Basset, the tub even got scrubbed in preparation for his arrival! haha.
SO! Yeah, I got a nap from about two in the morning until four. That was it. I tried to do the whole 'leave him in the kitchen with his crate, etc' thing, but holy crap, that didn't work.
So, I (yeah, yeah, I'm not supposed to, I know) let him out, and held him, and he promptly fell asleep. Then, I was sitting here at my computer, nodding off, with Dook asleep on my foot, the pup in my arms, thinking, what the HECK did i get myself into? So, I just went and laid down in bed with Dokker still, Dook followed, and we all fell asleep.
Woke up, freaking out, wondering who I was and how I got here, and the next thought was, did Dook eat Dokker?!!? But, no, I look over and Dokker is curled up at Dook's side.
So, we got up, etc, etc. Point is, it took about six hours for them to really accept each other. Dook just kinda freaked the puppy out, I think, for a bit, with his energy, and Dook had some jealousy issues at first, but now, they're ALREADY inseparable. It's so wonderful. For over two years it's just been Dook and I, but he was really quite accepting of the lil tyke, and has no doubts about his place in my heart!
I'm just very excited, don't mean to bore you all to tears, it was just a fear I had, albeit irrational, that Dook was going to have a hard time with this.
QUESTION: Dokker is UTD on all shots/wormings for a nine week old, but is it too early to let him in the backyard, where Dook's 'bathroom' also is? Worms, etc, just making sure, if anyone knows. Can't call the vet, it's Sunday.
(sorry that's so long, it's too early to call my family and gloat so I had to do it here...hehe)
Your new baby is darling, I love the full face shot! Although it looks as if Dook may have some issues (grin) with puppy breath, lol.
I'm guessing the breeder gave you all the records, which should show if he's utd on all shots/wormings, etc... think you shouldn't have any problems with them sharing the yard as long as you keep a close ye on them.
What a cute pup. Do Skips usually have docked tails? That was funny about when you awoke and were worried. Sounds like me and my first child, thought I lost him burried under the covers or pillow, but I had put him in the cradle. LOL You'll be fine in say two months, more rested. LOL
Thanks to all! I really love him <in a strictly moral way> at this point, it's been fun. You guys have all been nothing but encouraging, helpful, patient and sweet! So thanks!
I'm off to try and get a quick nap in between his bathroom times before I have to work tonight.
Oh, and yes, puttin, they do usually dock their tails, a full tail is auto disqual by AKC standards, so he's definitely not showable or anything. But that's ok, I prefer the curly fluff, I think it's cuter, AND it matches Dook's. I don't show, or breed, he'll be gettin' clipped as soon as he's old enough! heh.
