I dont have a fenced in yard, but i have a large tie-out that i keep my 5 year old female black lab on. But lately she has been getting out side when someone opens the door. She dosnt go far, usually just in the neighbors yard. but i'm afraid that she is going to get hit by a car. that is why im looking into getting an electric/invisable fence. do they really work? do you agree with getting one? thank you, Lmatt
They absolutely work. The only time it doesn't work is if the dog is not trained correctly when the fence is installed. My puppy got his invisible fence when he was about 4 months old. He had been running in the road chasing cars and birds before we put it in. He will not go anywhere near where the fence is now, even if a toy is thrown over, or if I'm standing there, or a truck goes by. He just stands and wags his tail or barks.
it is not cheap, but if done correctly it will work, and your dog will LOVE her new freedom. I just can't stress enough how important it is to follow the training they tell you EXACTLY. No short cuts. It is the key in making it work.
They also have the new technology collars - so if the dog tests the fence (tries to go near it or go through) the shock gets higher (hurts more) on its own, and when she stops testing the shock goes down again.
