I have a pup named Jeresy about 6 months old. (breed ?) I guess he's a mutt like me.. But I've been noticing that he had been licking his pads on his front paws quite a lot. I have felt the pads and I don't feel anything odd. He is going into the vets pretty soon to get fixed so do you think I should mention this to him?

All three of my schnauzers do. Sometimes they will after they eat. Its like they are part cat. I think they will if they have some allergies ( not for sure) but sometimes even if their toe nails need to be trim I think that will cause it too. I really think all dogs lick their paws, probably nothing to worry about.
Thanks for all the info. I am still stumped though. He is always playing with my other dogs or me (reciently unemlployed so I finally have the real time to spend with them). He just seems to do it when he is relaxing. He gets plenty of excercise and attention (now). I'll check with the vet, maybe it is an alergy to the food or something.
skittles, my parents have a bichon that does that. he does it b/c the hair is too long between his toes and it picks up alot and irritates him (so says the vet). when he gets his hair cut, it stops... just a suggestion, but maybe you can keep a lot of toys around for doggie to chew on instead.
My Mom's vet told her that it was a sign of allergies in her Westie. I also watch Sonia, the 'pet phsycic', who says licking their paws alot and digging may be relief from parasites, and there are homeopathic remedies for it ... Sorry, I don't know what they are! You can always research.
