Tell the kids that the dogs have jumped the fence before and will protect themselves if they feel threatened and let them know they are making the dog feel threatened. It may not necessarily be true, but they don't need to know that. And no, it's not mean because it's protected them, and your dogs from any trouble. That's what I'd do. xoxo, Dorothie
pommy, yes, i have called the police and they came by yesterday to check things out. the kids were riding there bikes and i told the officers that those were the kids that were trespassing. they gave them and their parents a warning. they also said i can call the humane society. I have not seen them around today. these kids really make me angry, but i feel better that the police addressed this issue. some of the ideas were great. i think i will definately look into getting a higher fence. the idea about putting poop there so the kids won't stand there was one that i might try. hehehe. thanks everyone for the advice.
You better check with your city's by-laws first in regard to how high you can build your fences. Hedges are great too, but it takes a while for them to grow tall enough to block the view. Can't you find out who the kids are? Also, have you tried talking to these kids and explaining to them that you don't like what they are doing? Perhaps a little bribe, like chocolate, might make them stop. Or, invite them to your yard and let them pet the dogs, throw balls for them, etc. If that does not work, maybe keep your dogs away from the street. If these kids are really as bad as you say, then I would also be concerned of them harming the dogs by giving them poison, etc.
Please do not listen to this PUBLIC person in regard to his/her recommendation. You cannot put glass or sharp objects on your fence and hurt the kids. Sure they deserve it, but who do you think will have the final win in court? The dogs or injured kids???
