where it is 98 degrees and too hot. I left my dogs at home, am having someone come in to take care of them 2 to 3 times a day. I hate to say it, but I miss the dogs more than I miss my son. ;)
How can I survive 2 weeks without Tyke, Daisy, and Spotty? I took their pictures with me, but am thinking I should cut my vacation short. :D
Talked with my Mom this morning and she assured me that my dogs are fine, but I wonder.
Hope all is well with everyone, will try to check Terrific Pets daily, since the library is so nice and cool. I haven't been online for 3 days and was getting TP withdrawals.
PS: Maybe someone can give me hints on how to stay sane without having the dogs with me. How will I survive without Tyke's hair stuck on my clothes. He is shedding big time right now, I expect him to be bald by the time I get home. :D
hope you have a fun vacati0on. is your leg better ? i always miss my guys terribly when we go away. last time we went away it was 3 years ago and only went for 3 days so i didnt have pet withdrawals too bad.
Where are you in Texas? You're right it is unbearably hot.
I know when I have left my dogs (don't laugh) I called and talked to them on the phone. Of course they didn't answer so don't call up the men in white coats. But it made me feel better. Those daily updates are nice, just knowing they are ok. Also, if your mom has access to a digital camera she could take some pics for you and post them where you can look and see that they are ok.
I've done so much traveling in the past few years that it doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Of course I miss them, but as long as I know I left them in good hands and I can get a report that they are doing well I'm ok.
Boy will they be excited when you get home! You'll have enough dog hair on you to stuff a pillow, lol.
Hi Gina: I'm in Austin. It's all highways and hot parking lots around here. You're in Texas too, if I remember right.
I'd like to go look at the pets at the Animal Shelter while I'm here. Not that I am getting anymore, but I like to go visit them.
When I was here in November, I drove so I brought Daisy with. She did really well, considering it was almost 1400 miles, one way. This time I opted to fly and since I now have Tyke, I didn't want to bring them both, since Ali lives in a pet free apartment complex.
Any suggestions on neat things to do whilst in Austin?
I was here in February also. That time I also flew. We drove over to New Orleans, a guy that Ali works with told us it was only a 6 hour ride. Well, try doubling that. We ended up driving back to Austin, it took all night. Probably didn't help that I missed my exit on the loop around Houston and had to drive around the entire city a second time.
I watch the weather channel and noticed that Houston is also extremely toasty, as is Dallas area. Hope everyone has their pets indoors, in the air conditioning, this week.
Hey Bassett! Welcome to Texas!! It is incredibly hot right now, but this is only a taste of what's to come! My home town is San Marcos, but right now I live in Del Rio. San Marcos is about 30 minutes from Austin. There is one of the largest outlet malls in the nation (i think its like the second largest) in San Marcos if you like shopping. Also there are great places to float the river in San Marcos. Another thing you could do is visit Lake Travis in Austin. I'm not that familiar with it, so I don't know where a good swimming place would be, but it might help you cool off!! Lets see, you are also pretty close to a little town called Wimberly that's about 30-45 minutes away and they have a lot of cute little shops over there with lots of neat crafts and stuff. Anyway, just a few suggestions. I have a friend who lives in Austin who's much better at naviagting the town than I am. She knows where all the neat coffee houses are. I wish I could tell you how to get to some of them, but I'm sure some of the locals could help ya out! Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay! Try not to miss the babies too much...I know its hard. I haven't had to leave mine yet...every time I go visit my mom she comes with me. But I know if I ever do have to leave her I'll be a nervous wreck! I think I would even drive the three hours to San Marcos just so she could stay with my mom because I don't trust that many people to take as good care of her as I know my mom would. So, be thankful you have that! Anyway, have fun!! :)
Hey, I am in Texas, Corpus Christi, a true 3 hour drive to Austin, lol.
Gingerspice hit the nail on the head. Just go up IH 35 to the outlet shops it is definately an ALL day thing but really neat and things you won't find anywhere else.
Also there is a park in the middle of downtown Austin. Can't recall the name off hand but they have a swimming area that is actually in the lake and you can rent a canoe and all sorts of neat stuff. Definately a good time to be in the water.
I almost died laughing when you said 6 hours to New Orleans. No Way! I guess you found that out.
You can come down here in 3 hours and go to the beach and hit the casino boat. I don't know too much about Austin, but I can tell you if you haven't been you have to eat at Papasito's. Best food ever. If you like cajun seafood they have a Papadeaux right next door. I am always torn about which one to go to. If you go to Papasitos they have a great special called the Del Mar platter. It is fajitas and grilled shrimp. Also the stuffed shrimp diablo. They are huge shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapenos. Really really good food. There is almost always a wait but it's worth it.
Oh, and how could I forget. You can go down to 6th street at night. It is a whole section of cafes, bars, and things like that. It is really something to see. They have piano bars and blues and jazz, you name it. People just go up and down the street from one to the next. Of course watch out for the drunks, but it has really neat shops too.
Out of curiosity, if you're 1400 miles from home, where do you live?
Hi Denise! How is it in Texas? I have been there a couple of times but not for long. I was in Kansas longer. It is hot there too. As for your dogs I don't know how to make you feel better. I feel the same way when I go any where with out them. That is why I bring them most of the time. Most of the time I take Kimberly and Harm at least. The 90's are not that bad lol. When I was out there it was 120 outside. It was in the 90's late at night. I was in Kansas alot longer then Texas though. It is so far from Michigan. I know it is 1,100.00 miles from here to Kansas. You have a dog named Tyke? I used to have a Yellow cat named Tike but I spelled Tike but it is still strange lol. Well I hope you have fun. What are you doing in Texas? I didn't do much site seeing there. South Dakota is a nice state for fun. I took Jenny there last summer and we had alot of fun. I brought my dogs with me. I only had 3 dogs at the time though. I still missed my cats and other pets though. We went to Rapid City for a while. We went to Bear Country USA. It is a drive through park where the animals are loose and walk up to your car and eat food out of your hand. Including the bears. We went to Reptile Gardens. It was really fun too. Then we went to Mt. Rushmore. We had alot of fun. Well I gotta go. Have fun! I hope to hear from you soon. Good luck! Talk soon. Good Bye Denise!
Basset..98 degrees...wow..back here AT HOME it is in the 50's and 60's and rainly..and damp..yuck..I have even turned the heat back on a few times..I freeze...Hubby fries..lol..I hope that your enjoying the time away...Gald to see you update us...Have fun...
It is so misearbly hot right now if I were you I would stay in the air-conditioning. Home, that is. It is too hot to get out and do anything. This is the first time in along time we have had temps this hot this early. We have friends that came home from San Antonio over the week-end, they went there on vacation and could not stay because of the heat.
my god how do you people stand the heat ? it is nice and chilly here in jersey but a little rainy which i could do without. i dread the summers when it gets up in the 90's. anything over 65 and i am melting !!!!
Wow! Look at all the Texans! I'm in Abilene, but I drive an hour and a half to and then from San Angelo, where I work every day. I'm not from Texas, but I do love the state. The heat is OUTRAGEOUS!!! After work, for the first 30 miles, the truck is heated up. I can't decide if it's cooler to leave the windows down or keep them up with the AC blowing hot air into my face. Which is worse? Still figuring that out. Sassy's been shedding a bit, too. Nothing like a bit of white hair with some heat to stick it to you. :(
"my god how do you people stand the heat ? it is nice and chilly here in jersey but a little rainy which i could do without. i dread the summers when it gets up in the 90's. anything over 65 and i am melting !!!!" Lol Scout! I guess we don't think about it. I've lived here all my life and I guess I'm just used to it. We don't spend much time outside in the summer unless we're swimming or its early early in the morning. We cherish the beautiful spring days when its only in the 70's. And we all complain about 50's being too cold! My sister-in-law grew up here, but moved to Chicago after she got married. I think she almost died the first winter up there, but after living there for 5 years she comes down here and complains that its too hot when its in the 80's. I don't know how you guys handle the cold! I actually get cold in the summer time being in the air conditioning!
Welcome to Tejas! Yep, I'm in Houston & it's hot as well as humid! Lots of AC & ice cold Texas tea is the key to survival! LOL!
"Sounds like you got on the 610 loop in Houston". LMAO!! Now that's funny CM! For those who don't know Houston, we have a freeway that is called Loop 610. It goes in a complete circle around the city, if you don't exit to another freeway you'll just keep going around & around, Houston in a circle! LOL!
Well I'm sure you'll still have fun Bassett-Lover in the Austin. Despite the heat, it really is a neat place to be! I'm glad to hear your legs much better too! :)
