my new peek pup has what looks like cradle cap. it looks like little pathces of dry scaly skin and it comes off and gets stuck in his fur. does anyone know what this is and how in the world do i get rid of it?
That doesn't sound normal to me. Unlike human babies, who spend much of their early months lying on their backs with their head resting on padding or a single surface, puppies lay in a variety of positions, on their backs, stomachs, side, etc.
Scaly skin on a dog can be an indicator of demodex mange or other skin problems. Take your dog to the vet and have a skin scraping done of the area. How old is the dog again?
oh man not mange again i am trying to get harley cleared up, he is 8 weeks old so he is still pretty tiny and young, i will get him into the vet and checked out thank you soo much for replying i appreciate it
Forbes...I would aslo try to stimulate the scalp with daily brushing..It will loosen it up and get it away from the scalp..i hope for your sake it isnt demodex...I know that your dealing with the min pin now..good luck to you...keep us informed as to what is happening with both pups..Thanks
thanks huron- i have been brushing daily and it seems to be getting better that is why i wondered if they could get something like cradle cap. my 2 older girls had cradle cap and it looks just like that and brushing it helped. i will keep you informed for sure
My sister had a GSD that was about a year old and he developed what you are describing, it was on his back area. She took him to the vet and it was an infection from him licking at the area because he had severe Flea allergies. She got antiobiotics for him and he had to wear an Elizabeth Ann Collar (to keep him from licking it) and it cleared up nicely.
