OMG, i was at the park with my mom, siblings, aunt and cousins, and we took Sandy. We go to the park in the evenings all the time, and Sandy always comes with us, and i've never had any problems with her before, except jumping up on people. but other than that she's like a perfect dog while at the park. well today we're sitting there, and my aunt was like Tara there's a little dog behind you. Sandy is normally good with other dogs, but as soon as i turned to look at this dog, she saw him and totally freaked. she lunged forward at this dog, and i had hold of her with both hands by her collar, and she was dragging me towards him. i was yelling at her to stop, and yelling at this dog to go. sandy was dragging me all over the place, i had my legs wrapped around her, but she still wouldn't stop. finally my mom was able to get the little dog to go away (his owners were all the way on the other side of the park...stupid people) but sandy was still yanking me everywhere. she ended up biting her own lip and dripping blood all over the place. so my aunt went to go and get tissue, while my mom was looking for the dogs owners. and then these two people walk by with their two dogs and she loosed it again, and again starts dragging me everywhere. i had more control that time though and literally pinned her to the ground. omg i was furious, and she knew it too. what the heck has gotten into her, she has never had problems with other dogs before, so i don't know what her problem was tonight. do you think it could possibly have to do with the fact that she was spayed? she was spayed about 2 months ago, and up until tonight she hasn't had any problems. i duno, and suggestions as to what the heck might be wrong with my dog would be lovely. cause she scared the heck out of me tonight. i didn't think i was going to be able to stop her from going after that dog, i honestly thought i was going to have to have her pts for attacking and killing the poor little thing.
Hi! Wow that must have been scary. What kind of dog is she? I know when I was a kid we had some German Shepherd Dogs who were like that. They were fine with all of our dogs on the farm but if a dog from one of the farms up the road came on our land they would attack them and some times kill them. We had a couple Collies that were that way as well. I doubt it has any thing to do with her being spayed because our dogs were not spayed or neutered but they did it any way. Good luck! Good Bye!
If anything, you would think spaying/neutering would help to avoid that type of behavior...hmm. I'm really underqualified to answer this question, but I'm sure the regulars will come along with lots of help =).
If she's young, it may just be the dog aggressive feature of the breed coming out. Few puppies are dog aggressive, but as they get older it begins to show. You mentioned that she had recently been spayed, so I'm assuming that she's pretty young. Sometimes pits are just dog aggressive no matter how much socialization they've had. If this is the case with your dog she can still be a good pet; however, you will just have to be VERY careful and responsible about keeping her away from other dogs.
