Got a call from one of my vets today. a guy asked him did he know anybody who would want a 1 yr old boxer- his daughter is having a baby in Aug, and if she doesn't find it a home by this weekend she is going to have it PTS. he called me and i was not sure if we could handle another but i talked to the hubby and he said to get it and we would find it a new home- may have already- don't know yet. anyway my vet said he KNEW what i was going to say when he talked to me. the first think that come out of my mouth was "%*^^&(^@%^$%^ what are they going to do when they have another baby- put this first one to sleep. I mean boxers are great with kids, but that is beside the point. putting a dog to sleep because you are having a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 STUPID PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BREED!!!! world is too full of idoits already.
here is a good one a lady brought a poodle in to work one day and said she needed to put her to sleep. she said she no longer matched her new room. true story. the vet took her home and charged the lady 200.00 for the service. shes a great little dog.
msboxers, This is the saying that me and my fiance live by everysingle day, when we are on the road, walking, everything and anything. But we went an extra notch...we have a Stupid people scale ;)....Allow me to explain, have you ever seen on the weather reports, the 1 to 10 scale? And they telll you oh today the pollen is a 9 or whatever. Well we do that with stupid people, some pople are just exceptionally many stupid people out that day and not others, so we thought that a nominal scale would be apropriate.
The fact that the vet doesnt have the brains to give him a brochure to read about boxers, or something give the guy, and his brilliant daughter research to read, makes the stupid scale jump to a staggering 9.........
I have a better one for you; "I see stupid people, they are everywhere, they walk around and they dont even know that they are stupid"

julzz i aggree to a point but let me set this straight. the woman does not live in my state is not a cleint of my vets and he is a mad as i am, her father is a cklent and he was tring to save the dog- it is hte dumb laies fauklt and they supposedly contated a resuce and we told they only adopte abused dog- as my vet says almost put to slwep seems abused to me.
"here is a good one a lady brought a poodle in to work one day and said she needed to put her to sleep. she said she no longer matched her new room"
Omg. Morons these days. I don't even know what to say...
Yes, I do. My mom had a doberman and two cats when I was born. She would leave me laying on the couch and the dobie, Hannibal, would come and lay next to me. I would never get rid of my dogs if I had a baby. If you are that worried, actually use your eyes and watch the dog around the baby. ugh

Gina, you're not the only one. LOL Its a quite literal title. I met this dingaling lady , we were at my sisters and I had my poodle with me. She said she had owned a poodle at one time. She had to move and could not take it with her so she put her to sleep because she did not want to have it sleeping on the cold cement floor of the shelter. God I wanted to say something. But I would have really put a damper on my sisters party.
I got a MinPin years ago because they were redecorating and it wouldn't do well with white carpets! The lady who owned her would change her clothes after touching the dog!!! Sadly the dog spent most of it's time in the laundry room but is now in a wonderful home!
Doing rescue I have hear the most ridiculous stories ever and it's pathetic, I hope there is a special place in hell for stupid and abusive animal owners...
Come on guys, these people can't really believe this stuff, they just don't want to say that they just don't want the dogs any more. Because I just can't beleive someone would put a perfectly healthy animal to sleep. Its just a disposable kleenex to them, they don't really care. Have you ever met someone that you knew had a dog really just for their own sake, the dogs need were unimportant. They make up the most ridiculous excuses for being irresponsible, like I'm going to say "Thats ok"
I think that there should be a "Dog Ownership" test (with a non-refundable fee) implemented here in the US.
If the test is passed receive either a tag or certificate stating you have taken and passed the Dog ownership test.
Those who have not taken the tests, dogs are to be confiscated and put up for adoption at a local shelter.
Persons found with dogs who did not take the test be subject to fines.
We have to take tests to drive, graduate, for jobs, etc. So why not to own a dog? I think this would help our problem with irresponsible owners. Maybe even require something like a class for Responsible Dog ownership, here in NY you need to take a 5 hr course before even taking your driving test to obtain your drivers license.
Just my 2 cents

ROFL, gina!! Here's one for you, a client once decided he wanted to put his cat to sleep because he was killing birds....not joking.....he felt that he was doing his duty. We finally convinced him not to put the cat to sleep because we had found a home where his behavior could be made useful...as a mouser in a country home. Even though he'd be living outside he'd be well taken care of and a heck of a lot better than the alternative.

No offense MSBOXERS!!! It took you 600+ posts to realize this??...LOL. I live my life through quotes:... "there are no stupid questions...just stupid people", "stupid is as stupid does", "a question a child may ask, but not a childish question"....etc..etc.. Where is a canoe paddle whack when its needed?? ;) ;)
There are people that have their animals PTS because they are going though a divorce and they don't want the other person to have them.
One of my neighbors got a divorce from his first wife and she was a vet. He had a German Shorthair that he brought back from Germany. She didn't put the dog to sleep, but she did take its vocal box out and then spayed her.
I could understand her fixing the dog out of spite (Sp) but I don't understand why she would remove the dogs vocals.
Some people are just so revengeful and stupid idiots and not just when it comes to animals, but in other ways to. That sometimes it is amazing we haven't destroyed are selfs.
"STUPID PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BREED!!!! world is too full of idoits already. "
Well, working for 911, and being a paramedic, I can attest to the fact that some people just aint too bright...
BUT, geez, dont label the poor fetus in this situation as an idiot already. The poor kid didnt choose his parents anymore than the boxer chose his owners. Both innocent victims if you ask me.
At least they called, and didnt take it to a pound, or just let it run away. Sometimes I think those people say PTS for the shock value that SOMEONE will want to adopt their pet.
Regarding testing before having a pet? its a good thought, but I think people should have vigorous testing before having a child. I am a sucker for a poor animal, but a TOTAL bleeding heart for a child.
I agree with you Trama momma....I have heard every excuse to pick up a dog to rescue..but the one who move you the fastest was im going to kill/pts/shoot...that dog if you dont come right now..And..It works..because if you care about pets at all..you dont call the bluff...Im glad that some one contactd MS Boxer she will do a great job finding the poor thing a home..or else she will end up keeping it herself..I for one have to say hello to MSBOXER...i have not seen her on in ages..so...Hello...i hope all is going well for you MS... And i wish there were guildnlines to adding to the gene pool of humans..a test or something...but..right now..nothing..So..thank fully all the silly reasons got these poor pups away from a bad sittuation so in essence./..they worked...and we all do what works...so...daa da..
I totally agree. When I was born, my mother never got rid of any of our dogs. We've aways had a ton of them around, and I'm glad I grew up with them. Giving a dog away because you are having a baby, is the most rediculous thing ever! I would never even think of doing such a thing.
hey huron working nights i don't get to come on that often, but every thing is ok. the couple had found someone who wanted to see if the dog fit wiht thm if not my vet is going to get him for me so i can find it a home.
One of my puppy families just contacted me a couple of weeks ago because their neighbor was moving and was going to take their dog to the local shelter and just drop them off - in 2 days. First of all, who makes the decision to move in 2 days? And if they had more time, why didn't they make arrangements for the dog? My puppy family couldn't take her (city limits and dog restriction and they already have their maximum number). I managed to contact Sheltie rescue and get the dog placed in a foster home (yes, in two days - and the rescue is 300 miles away). I was a little irked at the fact that a total stranger can arrange a safe place for the dog, but the owner didn't care less.
This is the reason I have a take back clause in my contract - you don't want the dog anymore then I do. :) We have nearly as many spayed/neutered animals running around our place as we do "breeders" (including a deaf dog that our vet asked us to take when her breeder turned her over to the Humane Society and refused to take responsibility). And everyone is indoors and fully spoiled. But I don't breed a litter unless I'm prepared to be responsible for each puppy for their whole life. Too bad that isn't true of each breeder. And too bad each dog owner isn't that responsible.
I had to rehome a puppy when one of our families got pregnant - only because the wife was looking at 7 months of bed rest and had 2 kids under the age of five already and she didn't want the puppy to be neglected (which I thought was very responsible). I think that unforseen things can come up and mean you can't care for your dog - BUT it better be a BIG reason to not tick me off. I'd jump off a bridge for any one of my dogs and I won't think of rehoming one of them unless it is in their best interest - not mine.
I really wish pet owners had to pass a test too...
