I was just watering my plants.I have 2 hanging baskets on the inside of my porch. Birds sometimes sit in the baskets. This time I was watering the plant,a bird flew out of the basket.I take the basket down, and see the makings of the start of a nest, but egss where laid that I didn't know about.I feel horrible because I pulled the eggs out of the basket .I didn't know.Mom wont come back to that basket now since I pulled the nest out.The eggs where small, like a pinkish color.I feel like a bird killer.Yestarday there was nothing in that basket. The bird made that nest fast.
That happened to my mum as well. The mum bird did come back, but it was hours later because she could tell we were around and it freaked her out. What I would do is try to remember exactly how the eggs were in there, and try to put them back that way, and just totally leave the area alone for the rest of the day. Don't go in that area, and if you check on them, do it from a window or something.
Some times it depends on the bird. A lot of them will come back.
It is just that people don't give them enough time to do so. They will only come back when they think they are safe to do so. Even your rehab people will tell you to just leave them there and see if mom will come back, but give her 24 hours or more.
There was a nest at a neighbors house that fell out of the refters of there car port.
Well we had to move the nest to a safer place, so they wouldn't get ran over or the cats wouldn't get them. My cat had already gotten one.
So we made them a shelter like thing where the birds could get in, but only them. The parents hung around and watched. Then when they thought it was safe they returned to the nest.
We kept our cat chained up until the birds were gone.
So just place them in a place close to where you found them and then don't mess with them any more. The parents should be back.
The babies should be fine as long as you haven't shook them or turned them over too much. Other wise the parents will just go and mate again and find another home. Don't be suprised if they pick the same location.
We have had three nest fall out of our tree this year and the birds still insist and building their nest in it. You would think after the second time they would find a new location. This happens every year, but usually only one nest bits the dust. There were eggs in the second one. Not sure about the first or last one for the dogs could have gotten to them before I seen them.
So don't worry it is part of nature only a fraction of baby wildlife survive each year from some kind of tragic reason.
Now you learn from it and next time you come across a situration like this you will know what to do.
Here is a list of some North American bird eggs, you can see if any of the eggs look like the ones you saw. They are kind of rare bird eggs but there are also some more common ones. Some of the eggs are really cool looking :) What did the birds that flew out look like?
My guess would be that they are starling eggs. They are small and pinkish and quite common. If you look up Starling egg on Google under image seach they give you a bunch of pictures, in them the eggs look more pink then they do in the first site that I listed. Here is one that came up.
