My puppy has this obsession with pinning down the cat and chewing on her. She hates it, but she WON'T FIGHT BACK! I have no idea what to do other than buy a new puppy (which I plan on) for him to chew on. I swear I'm so tempted to bathe her in Bitter Apple!
i wouldn't worry too much. every cat i have had has taught the dogs manners when it comes to them being chased around. it sounds like the puppy really just wants to play. some cats even enjoy rolling around and roughhousing with their doggie friends. they will work it out.
Maybe I'm an oversensitive pet parent. There is a whole section of the house she can go in and doesn't try. Mario instigates, though. He lays under the table covered by the tablecloth and everytime the dog goes past, Mario swats at him.
They are probably playing. The cat usually will instigate and then the pup will retaliate. It will take time, but they will end up best buds, just be firm with your pup if he gets too rough with your cat. Cats love to tease a new pet in the house. My daughters cats wait for her dog to walk by and then they grab her tail or thump her on the head. It's funny, but they never hurt each other.
frosty girl it sounds like playing. my cat years ago did the same thing. we got her as a little kitten when my german shepherd was 6 yrs. old. she would hide under the dinig room table and when max walked by she'd come flying out swatting at him. then they'd play chase especially around the x-mas tree. max didn't realize or care that he couldn't fir under the tree. we finally had to tie the tree to the wall. but at night she slept curled up in my shepherds tail.
frosty i would just like to say that i have a cat and a dog they get on fine with each othera nd are always playing at first when i bought my dog i was a bit worried because he had never been around cats before. i bought him from a sucluded area where he was bred in a warm place. and where also other dogs were bred like pugs and west terriers they wee so cute. when i brought him home i was worried because he was always chasing after her and trying well i thought to bite her but they wernt they were just playing it gave them both a lot of excercise and also tired them out. they now are great friends
I have a german shepherd,we just got a new kitten a little over a month ago Killer my GS and Tobi the kitten play all the time,Killer is very gentle but I agree with everyone else if the dog is hurting the cat the cat will let the dog know.the funny thing to me is Tobi puts his earsback wags his tail and he attacks Killer!!! LOL Tobi has a favorite toy killers tail LOL
I would have to agree with everybody else on the page. if the puppy starts hurting the cat, the cat will let the puppy know.and i would finish trianing your 1st puppy before adding a 2nd one to the bunch.
