Tj- What is even more sad is that in a matter of months every single one of them is going to be put to sleep. They are at a no kill shelter but they will still be PTS. Toronto's new Pit bull ban (that is to be put into action n the fall) states that no one can aquire a new pit bull. People's existing pets are safe (if their owners manage them adhering to strict guidelines) but since no one can aquire a new Pit all of those dog will die cause they can never be adopted out after the law is put into action in the fall. I hope that they are able to send some of them out of province although I can not imagine that they will be able to place many of them. Anyone want to save a Toronto Pit? They must be adopted before the fall, You would be saving a life!! Also if you know of any rescues in your areas that would be able to take Pits out of the Toronto shelters. Thanks, I hope that between that all of us we can save at least ONE life.
Cão de Fila de São Miguel- that dog is a Cão de Fila de São Miguel, It is also called the Azores cattle dog. It is typical of the dog to have it's ears cropped like that. the dogs ears naturally are floppy.
Just so you all know that's how they crop a a certain dog breed ears, I just can't remember the name of the breed, but they are very rare here in Canada, they were recently profiled on Ultimate Dogs: Behind the Bite but I just can't find the name of breed in my brain!!!!
sbz- thank you for the correction. I know that it is in all of Ontario, my brain said Ontario, my fingers typed Toronto. As I said, they need to be sent out of province.
Gunny- thanks for the name of the breed. I googled them and you are right, it is a common crop for the breed. I had no idea, that is one mouthful of a name though, lol. It is strange to me, since that is quite a rare breed you would imagine that the people who got that dog went to a lot of trouble to get him and would therefore appreciate him and not dump him at the pound.
A little odd... but cute in a teddy bear kinda way. I didn't think that it was a home job. It was too perfect on both sides, very even. I'd go crazy if I lost a rare dog. Especially with a name like that, it makes it sound fancy.
FYI, the new ban in ontario states that someone who never had a pitty before cannot adopt one. There's why there are so many of them...that's why I can't legally take my friends 8 yr old Amstaff even tho it's old, calm, fixed and very well trained.
sbz- I think that you are right, that the ban states that. I thought however that the ban was not to be put into action untill the fall meaning that you could adopt a pit now and so long as he was yours when the ban begins that he should be legal.
