I entered my 9 mo. old puppy in a show 2 weeks ago. sence then she has started diging in my furniture. My trainer said it was stress and instead of scolding her I should distract her. My question is, If she stressed this much from the show should I show her again or just forget it? It was a long hot day for both of us. By the way she did get a ribbon. But was it worth it?
Yes it was her first show. I took her to the park yesterday, She seemed to enjoy that and was more setteled after we got home. She only dug the chair once. Maybe she just needs to have more experince going out, and meeting other dogs. There was only 8 dogs there, compared to the 60 at the show. Its a thought any way. What do you think?
I am a trainer also, now there are many differnet theories on dog training and dog behavior. what i believe is dogs do not hold onto things that long. stress at the show would be left at the show. i think it's boredom. which makes sense that a romp in the park alleviated the boredom. destructiveness is can be linked to stress but again. dogs get over things quick. stress from 2 weeks ago. just doesn't make sense.
I'm going to have to agree with Gunny on this one; boredom and pent-up energy. They don't hold onto things like we might. It IS good to get your puppy out and about so that it is well socialized and well adjusted- going to the park is a very good idea. What breed is your pup?
