I found a home for a stray I had taken in last year & now my ridgeback is depressed & lonely, & I want to get him a friend. I decided on a doberman because of their loyalty, intelligence, & natural protection instincts, but I want to be real careful of who I get him from. I checked the breeder referral on the breed website, but I wanted to get some recommendations on which breeders people consider to be reputable.
If you or someone you know have had good experiences with a particular breeder, please let me know who it was, or if the breeder has a website give me that. Thank you.
If you go to a search engine you can find alot of good breeders that way. Another way to find a good breeder is by looking at akc.org this is where I found my dobermans breeders but of course the breeders that I got my doberman are no longer alound to breed under the AKC name.
AAWWW!! I know you've heard this before, but maybe try to get one from a rescue. I know it's redundant, lol, but I've now had one from a doberman rescue and one from the Humane Society (I would choose rescue over HS, but that's just me). The doberman rescue where I got Eli from spays/neuters, trains, does any necessary surgeries, puts them on heartworm/does heartworm treatment for anyone that's found to be hw positive, microchips, and has their doggies kept in foster homes. I know of a few wonderful dobe rescues/websites for you to look at, if you're interested. Otherwise, I always checked out the "puppies for sale" thingy on this site, you can type in "doberman pinscher" and it'll show you all of the ones that have litters right now. It's worth a shot!! Sorry I can't be of more help!! Good luck in your search!!
search the web for dob clubs in your area. Most breeders that are members have to follow rules and have all of their dogs tested before they will recommend them. Also when you find one you can email the people at AKC to make sure they are in good standing.
If they are not then steer clear of them..As they are not a good breeder. Meaning their dogs may not be a prue breed, or they are not following regulations. this is a very bad sign.
I'd steer clear of any "breeder" that has been dis-associated with AKC. They must have been caught doing something underhanded. That kennel would be one to run far away from, don't buy their stock. And certainly don't buy stock from people that are using those dogs to raise puppies from.
Have you checked the AKC site yet? They do have a classifieds section now, too, as well as breeder referrals.
You may want to check with the Vets in your area. They would know who breeds good dogs, up to standards.
Hi seren ~ great choice of dog although i'm always going to think that as i own a dobie he was a rescue with some serious issues but he has worked out perfect and wouldn't change him for anything. Please look into the rescues first there are some fantastic dogs i have seen on the u.k rescue sites and even though they are not pups (generally) the bond is just as strong.
heres some pics of harvey he is still under a year and looks abit awkward but he had a poor start in life and is now starting to bulk out abit ..
My female is from the Briarwood line and my male is from the Cambraia line. I am very satisfied with both of them.
If you go to the dpca web site (doberman pinscher club of america) they have rescue dogs from all around the country. I purchased these dogs for a specific breeding program, but there are litterally hundreds of rescue dobies that can be had from all around the country. the dpca website is a good place to start.
