I've noticed in some pictures in my magazines, that some dogs get their pictures taken (at shows)with the name of a brand of dog food, like Pedigree and Purina. Why? Do they actually feed that diet, do they get paid for doing so. I've always wondered about that.....
Yes they endorse the shows, sponsers to get their names in them. Euk, pedagree, purina, iams, they all put a lot of money into the big televised dog shows. They even sponser top winning dogs to be their spokes dogs per say.
Do the breeders really feed the food? Rarely. But its like a car. They may not drink bud light but thats their sponser in the car they race.
I once had a dog that was a vacuum cleaner when it came to eating. I was approached by one of the cheap dog foods to put the dog in tv commercial. I didn't like the food and said no. Dumb as I was, the one time I had the opportunity to make a buck off of the dog I didn't.
Purina etc., is the company that sponsors the show, therefore provide the platforms, etc that we get our pics taken on, no one is paid for having their dog pictured with the name. Doesnt mean they feed it, though I do myself
LPN169, i beg to differ, purina does pay the handler for shots of "EROS" with the food, if any of you get dog fancy, you can see eros probably on tye back page with a dozen other dogs, all titled, purnia makes the lavish claim purnia is to blame for their success.
That is usually the top 10 of the breed at the big national shows , but we have lots of pics on the Purina platform simply because they sponsored the show. What do those of you who dont like Purina feed?
I think you'll find most here feed Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, Innova, Merricks, Wellness and other foods at the premium level. Most are natural and don't have BHA or BHT (which have been proven to cause certain cancers in dogs). Most of these foods are approved at human consumption grade not just canine (translation: you could eat it if you wanted and its actually healthy for you). There aren't as many fillers and the protein is just that, not by products or meal or corn. They might be in it but not as the first several ingredients.

The only purnia frumla I use is pro plan and that is becuase it is easy to get the 30/20 mix that do so wel with my hounds. However, I only use that as an energy staple in the summer time normally my crew is on Canidae which in general is an all aready nice food.
Pro Plan burns very very hot, which has its uses in sight hounds, but normal purina foods I wouldn't take the time on.
I appreciate their sponser ship and such but at the same time I wish they'd stop making Alpo.
Icy - I'm somewhat surprised that your beauties eat Purina anything. I was told that the Merrick's Puppy Plate (dry) was too hot for my sibes at their current activity level, so we switched to Innova. I wonder if the adult (dry) foods are the same? Guess I'll just stick with the Innova for now.
