i was going to buy a rott had my heart set on one but then i talked to my wife and we wanted something a little easier going so we bought a labrador retriever (male) yellow) we get it this sat, im so pumped our first puppy as husband and wife im going to suprise her with it
oh i forgot to mention she doesnt know im picking it up lol im going to put a little bow on him and put him on our bed when she pulls in from work sat hopefully the little puppy wont have to go to the bathroom lol
I hope that all goes well with the interduction of the pup...it should..who can resist a pup..lab pups are especially cute..but im a real sucker for any pup...in actuality...i love them all..I had a dog named Cesear...he was a norwiegon elkhound...a stray that found us and he was fantastic..the only true protective dog of me...by brother used to beat me up or be pretty mean to me while growing up..he says i was the littel brother he never had..lol (fine considering im his sister) and that dog would bark at his throat and back him all the way up the back of the couch...he was wonderful...he was hit on the road..and in the rural stting back then no one contained there dogs..i lost a lot growing up...its sad to say...a pen or chain could have saved them...but with 10 cars going down a dirt road no one thinks that dogs are not as street smart as they seem..especially if they are used to no cars..they dont even look any more..i sure dont live like that now..I value what i ahve and the blessing there lives bring to my household. I keep mine in fenced area all the time now..better safe then sorry...sorry to digress...i hope the new present is a hit....the little women should just love him..and you for it..let us know how it all works out..and welcome to tp by the way...enjoy and have fun..
Congratulations on your choice of pupppies. Labs are a wonderful breed. I raised them for over 20 years and just love the breed. They are loyal and loving, so kind hearted and gentle.
Some of them, like my 2nd Blondie, are retrieving nuts. She would rather retrieve than do anything else in the world. She will retrieve a pen or a piece of paper on the floor, just to have something to do.
Don't know if you live near a lake or river, but they love to swim. I'd load up my Labs and haul them down to Lake Michigan several times a week. When you do swim them, be sure to wipe out the insides of their ears with a soft clothe afterwards. Since their ears fold forward, sometimes the water won't dry out and they could get ear infections.
I miss my Labs. There's nothing cuter than a fat, yellow Lab puppy. Good luck with Caeser. I'm sure your wife will love him.
im 5 mintues from lake st clair, as i am in michigan but i wont be taking him there to swim the current is to strong, but i have small lakes all around me that i can take him to. thanks for the tip on drying out the ears. i was thinking of putting in a small 3 ft pool for him to spalsh in.
Those hard plastic kiddy pools are great. All of my Labs had their own kiddy pool to play in for the in between times, when I couldn't get them to the Lake or river.
Just be sure to keep the water clean. I'd say dump it every day or two, since bacteria can build up in them so fast on a hot summer day.
The pools will get very dirty, just from the sand or soil from the dogs' feet, but they don't mind.
My one chocolate Lab, Cocoa was a nut about swimming. If it was too early in the year to take her to the Lake or to have her pool set out in the yard, she'd take to splashing in her water dish. I used those big, black rubber feed pans from my horses for the dogs' watering dishes. No sooner did I fill her water dish up, turn around and she'd have both front feet in the dish, splashing like crazy.
When I re-homed my Labs, Cocoa went to a gal in Oklahoma and now lives on a horse farm. If she can't get to the pond at the farm, she will jump in the horses water troughs.
Ceaser...A fellow michigander...yeah....i live north of port huron...1/2 mile west of lake huron...hence the name...lol...i grew up in macomb county...so i know the area well...im glad to hear a fellow micigander and so close too...let us know how the little women loves the gift...
