Well considering she is 7 years old now and has been eating the same stuff since we adopted her at 2 months old, you guys are saying "in the long run", well in the long run, she has always been healthy since I've owned her. Never once has she been unhealthy except when I fed her that god forsaking "more expensive"stuff as you guys would call it. Yes, she is doing well on the so-called "cheap stuff", no she doesn't defecate more than another would, I know this as I work in a boarding kennel, and trust me, I see alot of dogs poop and none poop less or more than my dog and we feed them "higher quality" dog food which is apparently better for them.

Don't get me wrong Mizzi, I do care what goes into my dog, that's why she doesn't get table scraps (used to when she was younger but stopped alltogether), rarely will get canned food and will never be on a raw food diet (don't believe in it).

Yes, I'd rather have chocolate cake than broccoli because I hate the stuff ;) ... But that's just me...hehehe...

I couldn't see eye to eye with you on the kid situation because I don't have any, my furbabies are my kids and I care about them very much. My dog is not picky, she just chooses not to eat the other stuff because she doesn't like it. I never gave in to her, she's never had the chance. She's not picky, she's just got a routine is all. All dogs have one, just like when you come home from work, you put your dog out and they're expecting it. Well, when I feed my dog, she's expecting a certain type of food with certain taste, if she doesn't get that and gets something else, than she doesn't eat it, simple as that. And I don't force it upon her to eat something else because she's happy and healthy with what she eats.

Actually, its not true about feeding less with "better quality" food. You feed them the same. If you feed your dog twice a day, 2 cups each time, the feeding won't change whether you have a 10$ food of a 60$ food, it'll be the same every time because that's just how much you feed them.

I have a Doberman that has always had alot of problems with food. Believe me if they make it she has tried it (Not the cheap stuff like Ol Roy or Blue Barn) She has taken well to Canadae, but I found a holistic food that I love and so does she. YOu know they don't like it when they won't even get out of bed in the morning to eat. The food I found is called Azmira. One thing I learned but had never thought about is that Azmira keeps its meats refrigerated before makeing the food. Most dog food companies don't so it's rancid and they have to put more chemicals in it. And none of us want chemical in our food or our dogs.Azmira has a website (Azmira.com) and they can tell you where in town you can find it. I can't recommend it highly enough. You get more feedings per pound than most dog foods. It is made like Cherrios.So you get more servings. Of course she gets shredded carrots and sometimes pumpkin with her kibble.

I fed pedigree for years and thought my dogs were healthy and never changed it because they always got sick when I did. I've always considered pedigree cheap stuff anyway. I didn't know it got any cheaper! I finally listened to someone and switched and I never thought there could be such a difference in my dogs.i just feed kirklands which isn't insanely priced and is better than anything you'll get at a normal petshop. I know a website with a lady thats done a lot of research into it buit I don't know if i can post the link. SHe has a lot of good info.

Could you please tell me what makes it better then any food you can buy at a regular petstore? Last time I looked at Kirklands it had corn in it. I buy my dog for at Petsuppliesplus which is a "regular" petstore. I know that Kirkland food is 20 something for 40lbs right? I pay 20 something for a 40lb bag of Canidae and you can't bet the ingredients of it. They also carry Diamond dogfood which is the same makers of Kirklands and Chicken Soup.

Kirkland lamb and rice is scary. Ingredient 2 is rice flour.
Kirkland chicken and rice number 2 is chicken by product meal.. Can't fins anywhere that has a complete list of ingredients though, so corn could be high up on the lists anyhow.

Kirkland Chicken & Rice . . . chicken, chicken by-product meal, whole grain brown rice

Kirkland Lamb & Rice . . . lamb meal, rice flour, whole grain brown rice

I've tried Kirkland with my dog once or twice, she wasn't that bad with it but still didn't eat all her servings each day and got quite thin from it. As long as my dog is healthy and getting the food, water, exercise and love she needs and deserves, I don't care what you guys say about the food that I feed her...She's not your dog in the first place, she's mine...

I wouldn't scold you if you were to tell me what you fed your dogs and tell you that it's just "pure junk", why do you do it to somebody else? That's just plain out rude of your part. Shame on you!

I'm the one that always says to feed what makes them healthy and you can afford. As far as I'm aware none of the pet stores by me even sell diamond(thats why i got the kirklands). The only food that has the first ingredient as meat is nutro and that is to expensive for whats in it. That is why I went to the site ans asked in the first place.

I don't know what the attitude is about but I was just saying what happened to me. My pet supplies plus doesn't have canidae. If it does I never noticed it. I heard someone saying they wouldn't pay a ton. Excuse me for bringing it up princess.

I think the nasty reply was meant for me because I happened to mention that there's a ton of junk food on the market. Really don't give a damn, since it's the truth. If people arent going to try decent quality food it's not me that suffers, but I don't want to here how they thrive on crap when only crap has been offered.

There are too many foods that have a higher and lower end to them... that's part of the problem.

Like purina pro plan is corn free, and decent.. but every other line is full of corn..

And there's one line of nutro that is alright, and the rest of nutro is garbage.

It makes it hard when you can't just say x brand of food is good when referring to the ones that often come out on the bottom of ranking them.

i feed my lab purina one for sensitive systems, its first ingred. is salmon, not sure of the rest, threw the bag out. he has been on it for about 9 months, he is doing better, allergy and skin wise. I just get so confused when getting food, i just got that food one night when i was running low on food and went to the grocery store. iam considering trying something better, like chicken soup? not sure what to do. we do have a feed store in the area that carries different food (I think)
