to get my attention. I want her to use another method. I don't know that I want her to use a bell. I wouldn't mind a bark just for this purpose ONLY. BUT is that bad to teach them to bark when you don't want it otherwise?
Dogs need to go to the toilet at certain times. After waking, after a meal or after playing. After these immediately take him into the garden and stay with the dog til he has done. When he/she has finished praise him with a command, good dog, and pat him. If yu see the dog squatting indoors, quickly take him into the garden and wait as above. On walks praise him each time he does it. My pup used to wee every 15 minutes, it was tirying but it worked. Try a corner of the room and put paper down, put a toy on it, this is for the nighttime, he will get used to going , but normally the dog will sleep all night. good luck, gus the gsd.
She NEVER has accidents actually. I am just very on top of things with her, but she seems to be trying to tell me that she wants to go out by doing something she knows I don't want her to do like chewing on something. It is like she is going for bad attention to get out.
Both of my dogs just go to the front door and stand,or if i'm in the bed room they'll be sitting on the floor looking at me then race for the living room. You begin to learn their signs of when they have to go.
So are you saying that you didn't actually TEACH your dog to stand there and look at you, it just began to do that one day? I am having this same problem, yes I can recognize that when she starts running back and forth against the wall like she is trying to get out of the room she has to go, but this is not acceptable behaviour for TELLING me she has to go.
i haven't been able to actually teach a dog a certain way to tell me they need to go out. they just find their own ways. all 3 of my dogs have different ways. one will just look at me, one will bark, the other will start to sniff and seem desparate (he's the puppy.)
Thats what I thought, so now my question is at what age did they develop these signs to tell you like staring, barking, running to and from the door etc...when can I expect to see some behavior like that?
my pug was 6 months old, my lab was about 3 months. my middle dog i adopted from a shelter at 9 months and she came that way. my friend has an akita mix that started asking at about 10 weeks. so, it varies and depends on the dog, in my experience.
I would suggest not carrying your dog to the door. Lead her. I walked my puppies to the door. I then physically grabbed their front paws and made them paw the door. After a few times of doing this, they did pawed the door on their own. My only problem is, they won't walk to the door on their own every time. They still have accidents. they love my rug under the dining room table. I have to remind myself to have patience!
You need to let them out on a certain time. Consistency is the key when you are training you dog. You can ring the bell while the puppy or dog going potty. This will associate the ringing noise as time to go potty and praise the dog when he obeys.
I got my dog's used to the word 'outside.' If they ran to the door, I took them out. If they didn't, I let them be. I also got them used to the word 'water,' so I could ask them if they wanted water, instead of letting it lie around. (They would always spill it, or tip the bowl over) I got them used to the words by: Every time I took them out, I said, 'Wanna go outside?' and for water I said, 'Who's thirsty?' It worked really well, and my other *new* dogs are adapting very good. They are also following the other dogs' examples. I hope this helped.
I also taught my puppy to ring a bell when he wants to go out. The thing is he rings it whenever he wants to go, or when is bored and wants attention. We are still perfecting it. Its like the puppy who cried Wolf sometimes with him ringing the bell every 30 minutes.
every time it does somthing in the house sy bad dog and make it sit by the door then tahe it out. give it a half of a treat when it sits by the door half if it goes out side. after a while only give it a terat when ist goes other wise it will sit by the door just for a treat. You could also hang a bell by yhe door and teach it how to ring the bell. Dachshund luvr
