i have a 6 week old staffordshire bull terrior puppy, and he doesnt seem to relate to any toys - i have tried him with everything - sqeaky toys - long rope - rolled up socks. But all that he wants is my feet. Can anyone explain why ?
Im not sure why he is not interested in touys..most pups do love feet though..and shoes and pant legs..i would roll the toys and try to interest him...is he a bouncy pup? I mean does he seem healthy and just doenst like to play or is he listless and doesnt eant to play...at 6 weeks he is a buit young and really can be molded to play if stimulated by it..i would get a toy you can fill with food and roll it around..geech...my last letter of schnauzer pups played with everything..eapecially the napkin or paper towle you used to puck up messes..they were on it n a flash...and loved the back and forth movemnt..i would not be too concerned if you pup seems healthy..and i would of corse get him a vet visit if you have not already...if he had a shot recently if might explain why he isnt a playful pup too...so..lots to consider when finding the reason a pup wont play...but i would jkeep trying...good luck with him...let us know what happens as time goes on...
my 11 week old peek wants nothing to do with toys either he only wants my toes and fingers, pant legs too. i wouldnt worry too much as long as he is playful and not listless. i think it is because they love you and want to play with you not the toys
Thank you for that advise - he had his first injection last friday, and he was very sleepy for the first 24 hrs - he loves sleeping to be honest, i think personally its because he is still young and ive only had him a week, maybe hes still tryin to get used to me ?? i have tried him with the dog toy "kong " aswell but he doesnt seem to bond with it - i will keep trying though.
i think hes a mommys boy to be honest - he always wants picking up - Does this show a sign of a scared puppy ?
I have a mama's boy if ever there was one! cody loves his toys though, we play alot together and I talk to him a lot, just like he was one of my human kids. I love it! Right now he is upstairs at the top of our stairs waiting for me to come back up, he is very patient but believe me later on around 8:30 he will start tearing around the house for his nightly romp! If someone wants to do something with him or take him outside, be it a friend or someone else in our family he always comes and gets me to make sure it is ok for him to go, I have to keep assuring him it is ok so they can take him out. Once he is out he is ok but he keeps looking back to see where I am and when he comes back in he comes running to me and jumps up like he has been gone for days. It is so strange because he loves to socialize with other people and dogs, he just needs to know that it is ok for him to do so. Forgot to tell you Cody is a Bichon Frise/Westie mix and is 11 months old.

I could be wrong but I think 6 weeks is a tad too young to actually comprehend the idea of what a toy is an how to have fun with it. When I brought my toy poodle Owen home at 8 weeks it took him a little while to get playful with his toys. He developed favorites of course. Just give him some time he has to get the crazy puppy syndrome wanting to bite and attack everything and take it out somewhere sometime!
hey guys, my dog is now finding himself palying with this toy bone that i bought him - he still plays with my toes and feet, but i think hes just a mommys boy. he loves the attention and as we give him alot, no wonder he doesnt want the toys. i have gave him a cuddly toy which he brings everywhere - he hates squeeky toys !! thank you all for your help and advise !!!
My parents have a 5 years old silkie/maltese. From day one she had an "old soul" personality and although LOVES and mothers people, has never really been interested in toys or even fun treats. That's just her!
As far as sleeping alot, my 9 month old has only two modes - crazy fun play and dead asleep. Just like babies they need lots of sleep when they're little.
As long as he's healthy otherwise perhaps that's just him. Have Fun!
