need i say more. This is probably the one thing that kills me. Dogs let loose in the back of pick-ups. This dog jumped, for unknown reasons. it did not make it. my wife pulled over and and the dog was deceased by the time she arrived. she wrapped the dog up in a blanket and put in her car, to give it a proper burial. she drove an hour and half home with it. it is now buried in my back yard. she did not even wworry about the truck. Iwasked her if she got the plate number and she was to concerned about the dog. she waited to see if they would come back. never did, probably did not even know the dog jumped.
Everytime I see a dog in the back of a pickup it makes me sick to my stomach, I am always afraid I am going to see what you wife did. That was a wonderful thing she did, picking the dog up and taking it home to bury it.

Gunny, your wife is a wonderful kind and caring person, more than those who SHOULD have been with the poor dog.
Living in an area where trucks are "the thing" (gun racks and all), it is a common sight to find dogs in the back of pick ups around herre. The tide seems to be turning though as more and more of them are secured with restraints that keep them away from the sides or back. Many also have crates/kennels. Still not a good thing, but far safer than it has been.
Well, you see it in Texas all the time. Its bad enough that they might jump just like this poor dog did, but people haven't got enough forthought to stop and think about how hot and the dog is burning their feet on hot metal. Your wife was wonderful in what she did, I would be so upset it would do be no good to stop because I can't stand to see something hurt like that. Just another story about people who don't give a rat's what happened to their animals.
Gunny, you have a true Jewel of a wife there! Major Kudo's sent her way! I live in Texas & you do see a lot of idiots with there dogs in the back of trucks. I always cringe when I see it. I never want to be a witness to one jumping out.
Thats horrible, I cant imagine how you felt witnessing that! I'm not sure if its illegal in Ohio, I know your not allowed to let humans ride in the bed of a truck, so it should be the same for the pets. Afterall, they are our children too.
My neighbours did that with their dog, on a busy street, a lady driveing behind them was saying hello to the dog from her car while they were stopped at a light. As the car drove off the dog jumped out and of course got killed. The morons actually blamed the lady in the car behind them.
Bless your wife…. Too many times do I see dogs in the back of PU. Do these people even consider the fact they may jump out or if for some reason they have to avoid another driver and maneuver their vehicle quickly… that the dog might be thrown out! That’s why people are not allowed to ride in back. It PO’s me deeply. During 2 vacation trips now I have stopped to attempt to retrieve dogs wondering the hwy. Luckily they ran back into a sub developments instead of traffic. I always hoped that they made it home.
I don't like to see dogs unleashed in the back of a pick-up. I do sometimes let my dogs in the back of my truck one at a time, but they always have a leash that is only two feet or so so they can't jump over the edge. For the most part they are inside with me, but on a nice day I let them ride in the back.
Thats more than depressing to me, its more than I can type.... I worry about having my dogs in ANY car. If your dog is sitting in the passenger seat beside you and you get in an accident the dog will slam right into your windsheild. Thats why I have a seat belt for Zane. I know its looks stupid and my friends ushaully laugh when they me buckle my big brute up but I feel better when I know hes safe.
DontLikeMuttBreeders... I thought I was alone in that! I have harnesses /seat belts for my 3 as well. …. Bought a big Suburban just for them. The whole back is set up for their safety…friends are always poking fun about it… but I love them… so what can I do …lol
