The best thing about Revolution is that it's also an effective heartworm treatment- you don't have to give Heartgard or another "preventative" while your pets are on it.
But in my experience, it just doesn't work nearly as well on fleas as plain old Advantage/Frontline/Advantix- so we stopped using it. It's definitely worth a try, tho- if fleas aren't a big concern- but do know that it hasn't been tested against ALL ticks- just the American Dog Tick- and tho it's likely effective against more varieties- it's not been PROVEN. So if ticks are a big concern- think about adding a Preventic collar or using FrontlinePlus/Advantix.
that's why I asked. Dino has developed a really bad case of what we think is mange on his chin. it is infected and I don't want to treat it with a dip because that will just burn him horribly. I also don't want to give him injections because he seems to be devoloping a bad case of the jitters. basically, i don't want to use anything unless i know it is safe.
I looked on the box and you're right. The difference is that if you're using revolution, it protects against heartworm, so you dont have to use heartguard, which Does protect against ascarid and hookworm in dogs. Thats why using Revolution leaves you unprotected against intestinal parasites...because you are skipping the use of heartguard.
well, Dino and Zoey are mostly indoor dogs. I have a townhouse with a fairly small yard and inside the house I have mostly hard floors. There's not much of a flea problem and those of you that live on bigger pieces of land in rural areas probably have more to worry about than me. Of course, I do have mosquitos in my area like everyone else. So, I was looking for something to prevent heartworm and also to clear up skin issues like the one Dino is having. That is why I was looking at the Revolution, it sounded like a perfect solution for my situation. You guys are always very informative and I appreciate all the input. I think I am going to try it out and see if it helps his poor little chin.
If anyone knows anything else about it, please let me know. thanks.
The vet said Revolution was an excellent product, but you should do more frequent stool checks if you're not using heartguard. Mine is a rabbit poop grazer, so I opted to use the frontline/heartguard combo.
I've used Revolution for five years now and couldn't be happier. I have not had a flea during that time. As has been mentionsed, it also protects against heartworm. I highly recommend it to everyone I know.
