Should I disinfect my backyard grass and patio with bleach once in a while? I have a container that I can fill with bleach that hooks to my hose. I was just wondering because I do have 3 dogs and like to keep things as clean as possible.
With so many dogs getting sick here in socal, I want to prevent as much as I can.
HM … I also have 3 dogs … I clean up poo everyday … but have never bleached my back yard. Vet said ( because I asked for the same reason) 1. if its worms and/or parvo it would not kill it in the dirt… I would have to re dirt my yard to clear it out. So not to worry with it. If on concrete maybe once every two weeks would be ok… but the Vet said to be cautious because bleach is a chemical and a poison… animals may have sensitivities to it.
It seemed like a good idea. I'm scared to death of my dogs getting sick. I don't take the two labs out like I used to. We used to goto dog beach all the time. There are just too many people anymore who don't take proper care of their animals, thus, possibly spreading infection and fleas. My dogs sniff urine & poo and I don't want them to do it anymore.
My vet told me that he has seen an all time high of parvo come through his office this year. Scares the heck out of me.
If you use a combination of bleach mixed with water, it will not kill your grass. As long as no other dogs are crossing your yard, you shouldn't have to, and if they have their vac's you need to get the immunity level checked to make sure they are good.
Your yard is occupied by only your dogs right? Then why would you bleach the area, they still spend time together, every where else. Just don't let other dogs in your back yard. If you want to disinfect, find something that you could mabe wipe there feet with on your way in from a walk. What is the illness your worried about.?
one once of chlorine bleach in 10 gallons of water will kill almost all bacteria harmful to humans without damaging most plants or animals, dogs and grass included. So feel free to disinfect whenever you feel like it. Be advised most viruses and insects including parvo, worm eggs and larvae, coccidia, and many others will not be affected either.
Hi i am a new member.About treating your grass,i have three bullies and as far as illnesses i cant coment , but for smell of pee and poo i found that spreadind lime at the correct time of year sweetens the dirt and eliminates ODORS.Hope this will help.
