I just wanted to say thanks to all that adopt and provide for the unwanted animals who needed a home.
I did not get my dogs from a shelter... But now that I spend more time in the dog world as a first time owner I really wanted to take a moment to recognize these people for each and every dog they have helped...
I REALLY REALIZE NOW how many animals are wasted each year it is sad.
I do rescues… the animals I rescue are still in the homes of the abuser. Most that I am called to help with are the more severe cases. The ones that are starved, beaten, kicked, chained, tormented, …. The ones “gang” members have… so when I go into the home/ yard to remove them… I get to see and handle dogs raised to fight or ones fighting for their survival.
I rescued 3 dogs from a home in North Carolina once. The dogs were so severe. Skin on skeletons. I was about 26 at the time in 1996. The humane society came and took them. They had to carry them they were so weak. The owner was home drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. He had to sign the dogs over...
I rescued a dog from a family friend I dont like him much though..dog has had fleas for several years and he didnt give a care. The dog never got shots in his whole life there. He said he didnt have money but when i examined his house Huge screen T.V.! Turns out the house was over a million dollars. With a poor itchy dachshund/cocker in his backyard w/ pool...I got SOOOO MAD.So i went ahead and took the pooch w/ me because he said "yeah, you can have him"
I have 3 … my 1st is a Boxer /Shep mix… she was 3 months old… tied to a tree and left there… for 3 days. A nice person brought her water and just thought the owner would be back… no one ever came … so I was visiting a friend who lived close to the nice person… and I heard the story… went over and took her home. She was a emotional a mess…. “ Shelby” is Awesome now. I call her Nana ( from Peter Pan) A year later I received a call from my friend… My 2nd was a 6 week old American Staffordshire terrier … one of her neighbors where breeding APBT to fight… by the time she figured it out… most of the pups were gone. They had one left … who they were going to plastic bag because she was in the yard and a hawk picked her up and dropped her. She had deep wounds all over her… they could no sell her… so…. Anyway.. when I said I wanted her… they could care less and I took her home… today “ Cricket” is a wonderful pup with no scars … she is a big baby. . My 3rd , I met when he was 10 weeks old - American Staffordshire terrier … new neighbors … a year passed and the abuse was horrible… never allowed out, chained inside the house on a 4’ chain to the stair rail.. never given water or food… they said it would make him go to the bathroom in the house so they said he didn’t need it. They had children who would kick him and torment him. He was thin, almost bald… I worked on these people for a year to treat him right… calling the local animal control… no help… until one day a domestic argument happened … I went over to see if I could help… and “Bruce” ran into my arms…. The husband went to jail for a 8 weeks… … during that time I had been given the dog by the wife… with a written statement…I took him to the vet… all shots, check up and neutered… bought all the new doggie toys, a collar… etc. The husband got out of jail … came to reclaim his pup… threaten my family… big drama … police were called… The police said I have to give him back… because they owned the dog together… I was sooo upset… A month later I got a call from my vet who said they had something I needed to pick up… ( My Vet helps with all my rescues) “ Bruce” had been found wondering on the highway…thin and mauled from being in dog fights. So he is home now and very healthy and happy. I Love my pups… a lot. Heck I love all animals a lot.
chimama - the NASRN stands for National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network. they take anatolians from all over the country, and recently rescued an anatolian from turkey, and find foster or adoptive homes for them.
Got my pup from a breeder, but I rescued 2 cats. Don't regret it for one minute-love them both. Also spayed/neutered 11 stray cats that chose our house as their permanent home, and neutered the neighbors psycho tomcat! (don't worry-I asked permission first!)
