But aren't the dogs in the 2-3 lb. range unhealthy, or could they be perfectly fine with no probs. My chi was 10wks. and only one pound but she was already sick so I really don't know. The research I've done has said they are more susptible to disease and broken bones but then I have heard other say that they are only that little bcause they are ill. So which is true
Blue Merle is a color nothing more. Blue merle is introduced into a line it is not a spontanious mutation.
As for weight hte chi standard states 2-6 pounds. Oversized dogs are common. When one breeds a chi one must breed for size. As any part of breeding you must breed for a complete package. If you are lazy and breed for pointed headed long legged 8 pound dogs you will get it.
I have a merle and the people I know that breed chi's get more than one merle out of a litter, so you could get a blue in every litter. I don't think that was a right number. The size of a chi is 2-6lbs, but some do get bigger. Some people say merles are cross, but the majority that I know and after talking with AKC they are not. Everyone has a opinion though!
