I recently bought a dog that passed away from hydrocephalus (sp!) and would like another dog. Instead of going to a breeder or a puppy store (which I will never again do), I was thinking of adopting. I would like a small Chi or Yorkie. So I went to some websites and found some adorable babies. On one site I found 2 different chis and on another I saw a 12 yr. old yorkie. Now I am not sure what to do. I like all 3 dogs but I am afraid if I get them home tey won't like the other dogs or something bad will happen. I've never adopter an older dog, so does anybody have any advice or wisdom they can share? Anything would be helpful.
No, I have decided to look for a dog at the rescues instead of through a breeder. I am just not sure if thats a good idea because I have never done it before. I also have other dogs and cats as well as younger siblings so I don't know how rescue dogs due around those situations.
Usually when you adopt a rescue dog they will tell you which ones are good with kids/other pets. Maybe go volunteer to socialize with the dogs at the shelter before you take one home. Find out which one you like.
