Some people swear their dogs show at their best when they are in heat. Just do your best to keep her from shoving her butt into other dog's faces. When it comes time to show and you are having to stand right by the ring, you may want to tell people with interested male dogs that your girl is in heat. You will need to be extra alert and considerate of people iwth male dogs.
I have a Mi-Ki. When I entered her in the puppy class she placed 3rd. I'm hoping with the additional training and experence she will do better. She is a lazy little girl and wants to sit instead of stand, so the stack and heel didn't go to well. I am new to showing so guess I didn't do very well myself. It is fun tho. If I can ever figure out how to use my new camera I would be happy to post her pic.
We will generally be sure not to go to ring side until right before time so as not to spread the scent too much, a swipe of vanilla extract will help keep the odor down for the males around. We will also carry the small ones right to the ring rather than walk them through everyone. Make sure also to inform the judge she is in season, they will appreciate the info, and will not get too close back there with their hand so they dont smell like that while they are examining dogs the rest of the day and espec inspecting the males.
I don't agree with everyone. My female does show quite a bit and was quite successfull in the puppy classes. I did pull her when she was in heat. First of all my handler handles both dobermans and danes and they stay in the motor home for the weekend with her. I do not think it is fair to the handler to have her hands full with both males and females and large breeds at that and my little girl making live mizarable for her all weekend.
As far as her performance in the ring, heat or no heat she performs the same.
I have also seen the cluster _ _ _ _ at ring side when there was a female in heat at ringside. Don't think I want to be looked at in the same way everyone was looking on that owner/handler. I know it is quite cut throat and some times dirty out there but I have to be me.
