thats a shame hector. what are they going to do with hope now that she has bitten 2 people ? many shelters will not in good conscience adopt out known biters. too many legal issues and fears of being sued.
Actually they aren't going to do anything with her, this shelter never euthanized a dog, except for Brenda she was also a pit bull, she attacked another dog while on a leash. I think they are just going to train with her. Well one thing the pastor really shouldn't stick his hand in her cage. And Hope hates kids, other dogs, and cats. Hope has never bitten me, and I pet her every week.
How awful. I was going to ask what was going to happen to Hope, but you already mentioned that she wouldn't be euthanized. Still, it's a sad situation. How badly did she bite the girl on the the arm? You said that when she bit the pastor, she dind't break the skin, but what about the 13 year old. girl?
She did break the skin on the girl, i think she may puncture wounds or just a red mark and some brusing, but it is not serious enough to go to the hospital. And Hope does have some bite scars, so I think she may have been a fighting dog, her life before the shelter was not good at all.

The girl that got bit by the dog are they going to take your shelter to court? Even though the dog does not like kids the person that was taking the dog out for a walk should be more careful. The pastor I guess I can understand if you have signs saying do not put your fingers in the cage, but if you don't then again the place is liable. That is to bad that a dog is that mean. I wonder who had them how they treated the dog to hate children!
No, they are not taking the shelter to court. Every time Hope is taken out of her cage for a walk the younger volunteers are told to step back, but this girl was right next to her cage, and the girl knew that Hope doesn't like kids.
Hope does not have to be pts, She is good with many adults and some teens including me, she just needs a lot of time to get to like a person. There is already a volunteer that wants to foster her so she gets used to being in a home. There are dogs and cats that don't like kids or other dogs that were adopted out, and I am sure Hope will be adopted soon.

hector it makes me sad when animals are euthanized at the shelters. i really wish there were a solution to the problem., but i have to agree in all good conscience with barligirl. hope doesnt like dogs, cats, or kids. what kind of home can they possibly find for her that she wont have contact with any of them ever ? a dog like that is a huge liability even without the stigma of the breed. any breed with that temperament is a liability. you said they put another pit down for attacking another dog. i dont understand why then they would not euthanize a dog that is known for hating kids and has bitten one ?
i know the decisions are not up to you. if i could i would direct them to the person responsible for the decision making in your shelter. please dont think i am attacking you personally. i am rather just voicing my concern for this dog and opinion on the logic of keeping hope alive.

This is the first time she bit someone. She has had a very bad life before the shelter. She will not be good in a home with small kids, or cats or dogs. But a house with adults is perfectly fine for her. The bite on the girl is not that serious that she needs to go to a hospital, just a little brusing, and I am not even sure if there are puncture wounds or just red marks. I still think that there is no reason to euthanize her, many of the cats at the shelter bit people seriously and they were adopted out, there is a dog named Moby who also tries to bite people that he doesn't know, and he is still there. As for the other pit, she seriously hurt the other dog. As I already said there is already a volunteer that wants to foster her and she would love to adopt her, so maybe she will adopt her. I have had Nala bite me seriously where I was bleeding a lot. Hope didn't maule the girl, she just bit her on the arm. And the girl knew that Hope isn't fond of kids and she still stood very close to her cage as Hope was being let out. Scout, I don't think you are attacking me and just voicing your opinion.

I saw the photos and she is a beautiful dog. I also saw the shelter is in Jersey. Just one thing, what is the name of the shelter, I plan on staying as far away from it as I can..
I too am an animal lover and don't like to see an animal put down unless the animal is suffering. I know this dog had a rough start in life, but is sounds like she is not handling her baggage very well. I could not sleep at night if I let a biter be adoped out, dog, cat or any other type of pet.
I know this dog is a victim of her early live, but when all is said, she is a biter.
She is not a biter, you don't know how the dog normally acts, yes she bit two people (had to take it out, seems it wasn't right) I play with her and pet her everyweek and have never gotten bitten and i am only 14 years old.

""""and you wrote "...it's not like she's mauled anyone"...very irresponsible statement Hector!! That statement absolutely disqusts me! """"
How is that irresponsible? It ISN'T like she mauled anyone! She just bit someone! I've been attacked by a yorkie, and scent to the hospital, and the dog was not pts under my wish. If it disgusts you, too bad!
