Regarding the Corgis...I'm a Canadian, so that will explain my answer: Queen Elizabeth has been breeding and raising and showing Corgis since before any of us were born! Both Corgi breeds are lovely, easily maintained, charming rascals. It they're good enough for the Queen of England, they ought to be good enough for just about anybody. Go for it. LOL Gwen
These are working dogs and need to work. They are exellent in war carring messages under fire and across mines, or rescueing people in water, mountains, or fire. They are not a good family dog and need to work. I suggest a German Shepherd.
Psst Puggy German Shepherd dogs are working dogs as well, they thrive on it more so even than Corgis. I'm not sure where you got the information that they carried war messages and worked as rescue dogs those would be GSDs, Belgian Sheepdogs, and other large breed working dogs. Corgis are prized as herding and family dogs, and haven't been used for much else. Corgis are wonderful family dogs that are intelligent and easy to train. One thing to be concerned about is that Corgis, like cattle dogs and border collies, are 'heel nippers'. If you get one, you need to stop them from doing this when they're young puppies, or it will get worse when they get older from trying ot herd your family or friends. But other than that, I give them the thumbs up. They're big dogs that just happen to be short! ;)
The best family dog is the Afghan Hound. They are courageous, indomitable, sweet, sensitive, very intelligent, digniffied but not indifferent, suspicous but not hostile with strangers. It must be trained kindly.
Corgis are great family dogs inside and out. They are asmaller dog with the engery of a larger dog,so make sure you have the room and time to devote to this great breed of dog.Do your reserch, talk to your vet, talk to local breeders and people who have this type of dog.But my favorite family dog is the American pit bull terrier or breeds of such.REMEMBER ANY DOG HAS THE POTIENAL TO BE AGRESSIVE!
I have a pembroke welsh corgis and they are thebest dog I have ever owned. They make an excellent family dog. They are soo friendly and have tons of personality. They are a big dog in a small body. You will not be disappointed .
We have an 8 month old Corgi (Pembroke) and it is quite the little dog. It is smart and very active. It might require a little attention and effort than some other breeds, but if you do as you need to with the little pups they are a hoot. Ours seems very smart and has a lot of personality. It plays little games for attention and fun. We have tried to follow general training guidelines and it seems to respond well. Still have a few issues, but it is still young. I would recommened to anyone who is going really into making the commitment to any type of dog. Ours also goes to agility class and is doing great, it gets very excited when it gets to go "to class". I have had such fun with this little it has me feeling like I would like another.
