I am getting an adorable goldendoodle in 12 days. We went to visit her in OH..I live in PA. She is precious. I got to see her at only 5 weeks. We will be getting her when she is 7 weeks and 3 days old. I have never had a dog. I am very excited. I have read up on everything to know about training a dog. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions I might need. We are naming our little girl Desi Mae..Do you like the name?

Hmm, I think you should just get the basic puppy things you will need right away, and add as you go. Instead of buying a bunch of stuff and finding you can't use it(because of climbing etc), or its not needed. Brush, leash, collar, bowls, inexpensive bed(an expensive one may get chewed to peices) Later buy a nice one, Pee pads, if thats the route you will take, a crate just big enought for it to stand and turn around in. Pups will separate a larger crate into two areas, a sleeping area and a peepoop area. You will need to trade up later and get a bigger crate as it grows. Find out what the breeder had been feeding it and buy a bag of it. If its not something you want to continue feeding, buy a small bag. Then after the pup seems settled, buy and mix the new brand in with the old, so's to get pups tummy used to the new stuff. Puppy shampoo, chew toys(knotted ropes, nylabones, things like that) Stuffed animals should not have any buttons or peices on it that the pup can choke on. They will chew them off.
Thank you for all the advice! I am glad you all like the name. I actually did recently purchase puppies for dummies and it is awsome. I found it very helpful. I will be talking with the breeder to see if she can send us something with our new addition to remember her siblings and mom. Thanks again.
One thing I highly recommend is a "snuggle puppy." It's a stuffed doggie with a battery operated heart beat to simulate the mom's. I got one for my two puppies and it worked out great, they never cried at night. Good luck!
hello and welcome and congrats all at the same time..I would suggest what one smart cookie who bought one of my pups did..she sent a blanket (can use a towel too) and a toy and we let the puppy pack sent get on it..not enought to get dirty..but so the pup can smell something it is used to..Rebecca who bought the pup said it worked fantastic with her pup Bijou...i would have to agree since i have read it...but never did it myself though. Good luck to you...and keep us posed...and plenty of pics please...she sounds adorable...
