I have been pet sitting for this one couples cat now for almost 11 years. i started taking care of sweetie before my son was born. for many years now the couple has been talking about building a house in virginia and eventually retiring down there. well after talking about it for years it has finally become a reality for them. the house is going to be done late august. they are down there now taking care of details and i am watching sweetie for them. they left me this lovely note saying how much they wish i could come and take care of sweetie down there when they move. that i am the only one besides them that sweetie will be sociable with. and how they can always tell that sweetie was well cared for while they were gone because of how content she is when they return. they have only one more scheduled trip down there before they move. so i only have about 3 more chances to say goodbye to sweetie. i cannot believe i am bawling like i am losing one of my own pets. i knew this day would eventually come but i was just shocked at myself bursting into tears when i read their letter to me.
well anyways, thanks for hearing me out. figure anyone else i tell this too will think i have lost it.
i would like to buy sweetie something for her trip. my cats are not big into toys and stuff so i dont know much about what a cat would really like. any ideas ?
Scout, I, too, know how you feel. When I still lived at home, our neighbor up the street had a beautiful, stunning, gorgeous, I just loved him to pieces Dobie named Major. Major didn't like anybody but me. My neighbors unfortunately were the sort who didn't take care of their animals. I would walk Major every day, feed him, brush him, and just generally spend time with him. When they moved away, I was heartbroken because I had considered him "my" dog by that point. I too felt like I was losing "my" dog. Sigh. At least though the cat you take care of is taken care of by it's owners. I never knew what Major's fate was...
That is terribly sad, I am so sorry......but I have found something that my cats like to play with.........They love to play with string, with a bell tied to the end........I'm not sure if it would work with that specific cat but my cats seem to enjoy it...........sorry once again!
Mine is also a kitten too. But he loves those balls that have feathers velcroed to the end. The other toy he loves is actually a squeeky tiny little bear i bought for Rudy but that cat carries it around everywhere with him and meows for it when he can't find it. Now rudy on the other hand doesn't like toys at all!
Well said Pyrmom! I am so sorry Scout! A new brush sounds like a great idea too. It's funny when it comes to toys cats like the ones not made for cats, like rolled up foil in a ball, paper sacks from the grocery store, shoe boxes to squish their whole bodys into. LOL!
Ouch! I know what you are saying. I had a kitty who I had from a kitten, I had to put her down at 11, that was one of the hardest days of my life. I know that kitty is not yours but it must feel the same as I felt and I still do . Scarlett has been gone for 4 years now and I still miss her everyday. She was my baby and she never liked anyone, but a the chosen few. Bless your heart! I know how hard that is. Give her something special, if it's the brush do it. I think of Scarlett everyday. It's really hard to say goodbye to someone you love. I cryed just thinking of Scarlett.
