Most times the breeder just wants their kennel name used on the name, it goes first then anything your heart desires after that, if the breeder didnt require the kennel name, then you can make one of your own. After all the years of naming dogs, we have list after list of names we have come up with and review it every time we have a new one to name, and at times the dog itself just makes you think of one that seems to fit. Magazines, song titles, race horses, any of these things can spark an idea. The only rule is a maximum of 25 letters (someone correct me if thats wrong please) this includes any apostrophe's, commas, etc.
Yeah, it's about 25-27 letters including spaces and puctuation marks (commas, etc.). I haven't registered a dog in two years so it usually changes but not by much.
Just pick whatever you want...it can have his name in it or it doesn't have to...it can be a movie title...a saying...etc.
Let me tell you a few examples...my 2-year-old, female, Golden Retriever is named Kelsey...her AKC reg. name is HEATHER'S MERRY MAIDEN GOLD...now here is why I chose that, my name is Heather...she is always happy...she's a girl...and she's a Golden Retriever & it's kind of a tradition to have either gold or golden in their reg. name.
A 4-year-old, male, Golden Retriever is named Moose (he's a friends dog)...his AKC reg. name is MONIDA'S MOUNTAIN MOOSE...now here is why they chose that, they are origionally from Montana but moved to Idaho several years ago and got Moose (Montana + Idaho=MONIDA)...he loves the moutains and he also hunts upland birds/waterfowl...and they chose to put his call name it in too.
I had a Parson (Jack) Russell Terrier named Jackson his AKC reg. name was RIVERGLENN ACTION JACKSON...now here's why, his kennel that he came from required it to put their name for the prefix (Riverglenn)...he was very active...and I decided to put his call name in there.
Duke's Solid Gold Mistake (Missy) Brothers' Duke of Earl (Duke) Duchess of Earl III (Duchess)
If the name you pick had been used they will add you last name of Roman Numerals.. Also they only allow so many dogs to have the same name, so once they get to the limit they may seen the papers back to have you rename your dog
My suggestion is to pick a unique name instead of a common popular name for AKC registration purposes. AKC has an allotment of around 37 for each name for each breed. Once a certain name is used up, AKC will ask you to change your dog's name in order to complete your registration. It happened to me when I sent in my registration papers. All along I liked the name "Hershey Kiss" for my chocolate lab. We decided to shorten her name down to "Hershey". The names "Hershey, Hershey Kiss, and Hershey Kisses" were all at the maximum allotment for labrador breed. I called the AKC to help me find a name for her. They told me that Hershey's Kisses was still available. I mailed back my form with that name. Her official registration name is "Hershey's Kisses II". We of course call her "Hershey" for short. She is very cute, and I think of her as my "Hershey Kiss". AKC said that unique names are more likely to get approved quicker than common popular names.
Your dogs name is Jynx right? Well I don't know how the naming systems work but I thought of the cheseiest name. You know the phrase "Jynx, you owe my a coke", well what if you named your corgi, "Jynx, you owe me a corgi" Huh, Huh. Is that not the best name you have ever heard. Jk. LOL.
i agree with earlier posts that said the check w/ the breeder, they might want their kennal name in jinx's registered name. as for suggestions, try these on for size. Lifting the Jinx Lady jinx Wicked Jinx Don't Jinx it and oh so many more. u could also just leave her real name out of it completely. perhaps consider the all so simple Jinx 'Smith' or whatever ur last name is =)
Hi everybody! I'm needing some help with an AKC name as well. We will be getting our German Shorthaired Pointer puppy 2 weeks from tomorrow! Ruby will be her call name, and the name of the kennel is Fair Fields. Any suggestions are very much appreciated!!!
