We went to a agility thing today and my friends talked to a guy with one that they really liked but ther isn't a ton of info on them aorund on the internet and I only have a couple pages in my akc book. Other than that i know nothing. Any experience with them? They live in an appartment but its fairly large and they have the time for it. The guy with the dog said it would work as long as they got enough exercise outside. Thanks for any help!
I've only met one vizla in my experience and she was a very sweet dog, but VERY active! I think they are a lot like other hunting breeds, you need the time to stimulate them mentally and physically. I wouldn't recommend this breed to someone in an apartment unless they are going to have the time to really spend exercising it. Otherwise from what I've read they seem like great dogs! Very loyal family pets.
Vizsla's are wonderful dogs. It's one of the breeds we were considering getting, but didn't have much luck finding one from a good breeder in our area. They are hunting dogs, and require LOTS of exercise. And by exercise, I mean more than just 1 or 2 long walks each day; they really need to run off leash, so if you have a large fenced yard, that would be great. They aren't real popular dogs and so they haven't been overbred and don't have a lot of the health problems common in a lot of breeds. They do get dysplasia, but not nearly as much as you see in labs and goldens. Minimal shedding, need a little ear care. They live on average 12-14 years.
I have a vizsala, he is great. Definately a bird hunting dog (although he has chosen to eat flys and bees instead because those are the only things he can catch)!!!! They need lots of exercise and lots of room to play, definatley a stretch if you live in an apartment. But they are very loving and loyal dogs who need lots of lovin. They great along great with other dogs and cats, ours can sometimes bark insestintly (sp!) though. They have a very muscular body and a beautiful red coat. If you have any more ?s just let me know and I can try to answer them for you. Great dog, wonderful choice.
