1 year old male mixed breed. Eating ok till we switched him from puppy food to adult. giving Hills science. now wont eat from the bowl, we have to put it in our palm and hand feed. he has always been on dry but now wont eat it unless we do this.
Is this odd? how can we fix the problem? We tried changing his bowls from plastic to metal and he still won't eat from the bowls. Help me?
Skittles , this is a forum and not a chat room. ometimes it takes awhile before someone will see your request and respond.
I responded rather quickly I thought, , but if you dind't like my response or didn't want to answer my question, you have to wait until somone else might be able to help you, but please do not post the same question twice . It only causes confusion.
I am very sorry I upset everyone, but I waited about 15 minutes for my 1st post to come up and I thought I did something wrong.....Please forgive me. From now on I will call my vet. Thank you for your answer Harlee and I will try it.
Perhaps, you can put your puppy back on puppy food for awhile longer. Pet stores have told me that a puppy can actually remain on puppy food as long as 18 months or so. It all depends on when a pup is ready to change over to adult. Some require change to adult food sooner. As far as the hand feeding, I also have sometimes done so with my chocolate lab.
As far as the bowl is concerned, you did the best by changing from plastic to stainless steel. Plastic is really not advisable for food. Bacteria builds up in plastic dishes and can cause severe acne on dogs chins requiring expensive vet treatments. The best bowls are either non-tip stainless steel or ceramic ones. I use both kinds with my lab puppy.
