Hey guys, I'm starting a doggie clothes business and I was wondering if you guys could offer any advice. Does your dog wear clothes? If so, what styles do you like? I only have a couple on my website, so I'm looking for ideas.
Don't know if this will help any, but I use children's clothes. Sometimes I use a light Tee shirt in the summer, mostly to make my dogs more approachable. In the winter, I use a sweater with a tee shirt underneath.
I'm sorry, but no, I would never put a Tshirt on my dog. Of ourse, I have what's going to be a medium to large dog. I'm sure that many out there with the smaller breeds love to dress them , up. Remeber something. I'm only one person. For everyone like me who won't put a T-shirt on thir dog, there probably are still many who would. Don't give up and I do wish you luck :-)
Well I am getting a chi and fully intend to dress her up in everything, I luv the cute little t-shirts that say things. I also luv the rhinestone collars and allthe different dog carriers. If you are going to create a dog clothing company you might want to work with other people to complement your collection. Like if you get together with someone who makes special dog sweaters or beds and you make the t-shirts, that way you have a wider variety of things you carry.
I have a 3yr old Chi and I'm alittle confused about how to put on his harness if I put a jacket or sweater on him. Do I have to use a coller around his neck?I don't usually use a neck coller. I see some cute winter jackets but not sure how a harness would fit around it. I guess it would fit around a sweater. Any suggestions?

It would probably be a good idea to have him wear a collar also, it would be harder for him to slip out of the harness. As long as using a collar won't choke him, go for it. I have seen some coats with harnesses attached. That could be an option for you. I can recommended several websites that sell doggie clothes.
I use doggie clothes for my chi's and japanese chins I don't for my GSD. I have sweaters and a couple shirts, but only for the girls they say diva dog and are pink with gems on them. I don't really dress them up unless company is coming over. My one chi is less than 4 lbs and it is really hard to find her something that fits. I have a picture of them in their outfits. I have been trying to put on here for the past week! My pc crashed and I am slowly getting it back. Once I do I will show you. They wore their outfits for the 4th. It is really cute! I will keep you posted!
Although I'm not into doggie clothes, per se. I do love bandanas on dogs! There aren't enough vendors out there who have a wide enough range of fabrics and velcro closures on bandanas (I don't like to knot them!). I've been searching high and low for velcro closure bandanas with fishing/camping/great outdoors motifs, and the few that I find, I don't like.
holidayzbliss: You sound like the kind of person I design clothes for! If you're interested in giving advice on my products: www.cafepress.com/ilcaneboutique (Note to everyone: I'm not trying to advertise, if anyone can provide constructive criticism, that's more important to me than money)
gbroxon: Thanks for the idea! I'll try to do velcro bandannas if I can.
Thanks! I will take a look! My boys get to wear sweaters or sweatshirts that have sports on them or the american flag. Then I have bath robs for all of them. Also my girls have two cute pink outfits and they both have sweaters. Hopefully soon the picture will be able to be shown on here! They are so cute! With the boys they have the sweatshirts that have a football on them and are hooded. For a few minutes till they take the hood off it is so cute to see them run around with the hood on!
Do you only have t-shirts so far? Are you going to get sweaters or sweatshirts?
My only opinion would be the shirts to be more colorful people love colors! I like the phrases on them though! I don't know if they would fit my chihuahua's maybe to big? They should fit my chins though!

I think it's wonderful that you're starting your own doggie clothing company. I LOVE to dress my Jacks up. I have two Jack Russell Terriers, and I dress them up all the time. Sometimes I think they have more clothes then I. On my male, I put jackets, sweaters, tee-shirts, hoodies, raincoats, vests (I LOVE the vests), and polos. On my female, I like her in dresses. Sundresses, dressy dresses, any type of dress. I haven't tried a skirt yet, but I imagine that too. I'm even looking into buying her this peacoat that matches mine.
Hope this all helps. Doggie clothes are extremely popular in my area, Nichole
Ps. I'd like to see more clothes available that look like people clothes. I'm not partial to big jewels that dogs can eat off, or furs, or goofy symbols or anything like that. I kind of like the "Gap" look. My male has three polos, and people swear they're from Gap or Old Navy. I get compliments on them all the time, because people can't find clothes without all the mumble jumble on them. Again, hope it helps!

Definately make a section for LARGE DOGS!!!! I am sick to death of seeing only "tea cup size" or a L only made to fit a jack russel terrier... sorry, but they aren't LARGE. :-) OR they'll have this ugly section for large dogs, of big plain yellow rain coats... while the little dogs have the red checkered ones. .. ugh- its like big dogs only have 'functional clothing' not cute clothing... I think every dog deserves a nice outfit here and there. So, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE incorporate a section of CUTE stuff for large dogs! I like polo Ts on dogs and striped shirts, and of course sweaters. I also love it when sites tell you exactly what size they would SUGGEST for what breeds of dogs, obviously every dog is different, but its nice to have a 'range' so I can kinda pin-point it more easily! OH! And if you get some super cute dog clothes, maybe a 'human section' with clothes that match! But of course, I see that alot on sites too, and the clothes usually are ugly and loosey-goosey instead of cute and form fitting so no one would want to wear them out! But.... you could take that idea and spin it- only carry cute stuff and be the exception! I'm the type of girl that loves to buy clothes for dogs, I spend well over a hundred dollars a month on toys and other misc stuff for Kanedog (not including food/treats)- make a 'big dog' section and I'll be there! Hope that helps! SORRY ITS SO LONG!
