I was hoping you pet experts could help me out. I adopted a 3 month old puppy in China and I have no idea what kind of dog he is. His name is Toby and he's a fantastic puppy. I was wondering if anybody knew what kind of dog he is? I'm guessing maybe some kind of mix, but I don't know. He doesn't look like any of the Chinese breeds i've looked up on the net.
yeah, after looking at more Tibetan spaniels, I don't think he's that. Those dogs are really popular in this certain part of China, but I don't think that's what Toby is. Perhaps it will just be a mystery.
Toby is so cute! As soon as I saw him, I went awwww.....The markings look like a Shih Tzu to me. I think he might be Tibetan Spaniel also. There may also be some American Eskimo Dog in him to. Well, my guess would be Shih Tzu/Tibetan Spaniel/American Eskimo Dog Mix.

Well, I've been in China since May and I'll continue to be here until February of 2006. I had no intention of getting a dog while I was here, but you know how things go. Toby was basically being abused by his "Chinese" family. He was getting milk and cookies to eat and when that made him sick, they gave him human diareah medication. So, a couple of foreigners adopted (saved) him from that family and tried to find a home for him on the internet. That's where I saw his picture.
Actually, the most popular dog I see over here is the Tibetan spaniel. It's really strange, but most people in China are deathly afraid of dogs. One woman almost had a coronary the other day when she saw Toby from 10 feet away. She really screamed and fell backwards from fright. Everyone has this story (excuse) that they were chased or bitten by a dog when they were little. Toby is considered "big" over here, so many of the dogs i've seen are of some type of toy breed. I have never seen a medium sized dog over here, never one that is taller than my kneecaps.
